Rignac offers several discoveries: the history of the Maquis Du Guesclin, the preservation of old chestnut varieties, equestrian activities and insights into earlier technologies. When planning your stay, you can prioritise these different themes according to your interests. Some visits have specific requirements, such as a reservation or a minimum group size; other experiences are best explored through their history or exhibitions.

Maquis history and memorial sites

The history of the Maquis Du Guesclin is connected to the forests between Mirabel, Regardet and Prévinquières. A group led by commander Hygonnet “Lescure” found refuge there. A hiking trail is dedicated to the Maquis Du Guesclin, bringing this historical theme to life as a walking route. The municipality also built a shelter with explanatory panels.

Old technologies and equestrian traditions

Un Oeil sur le Passé in Rignac focuses on old technologies, offering discovery activities, exhibitions and demonstrations. This provides a different way to explore the past alongside the history of the Resistance. Check current visiting arrangements before your visit.

Le Diplodocus continues Rignac’s equestrian tradition. A municipal post from 2026 lists riding lessons, training courses, rides and other equestrian activities. The selection ranges from lessons to rides. Which option is right for you depends on whether you are interested in lessons, training courses or a ride; check the specific visiting arrangements in advance.

The Fête du Cheval revived a local horse festival tradition that had disappeared in the mid-1970s. The first edition took place on 13 August 2026. Check the event dates before planning a future visit.

Chestnut culture and farm experiences

The Conservatoire Régional du châtaignier in Rignac is dedicated to preserving, studying and promoting old chestnut varieties. Its conservation orchard preserves more than 70 varieties for research and conservation purposes. This broader work of the Conservatoire can be distinguished from a specific visitor experience: by reservation, groups of at least ten people can take a free, two-hour guided tour of a chestnut grove and a Sécadou. Arrange the reservation and group size before travelling.

La Ferme de Tessi also combines farm produce with visitor experiences. The organically farmed property sells veal and beef, eggs, walnuts, chestnuts and apple juice directly from the farm. Product availability may vary seasonally. Meals are also available on site at the farm table; confirm availability in advance.

For a farm visit with tasting that requires a reservation, the visit is free, while the tasting costs €6 per person. Reserve in advance and confirm the details of the offer, as they may change. This helps distinguish a farm visit from a meal at the farm table: the former requires a reservation and the tasting incurs a fee, while the availability of meals must be checked separately.
