Discover Réquista through a range of themes: the history of the bastide, the construction phases of Notre-Dame de Pitié church, plant dyes at Cazelle and a walking trail along the Tarn. When planning your trip, it is worth considering the different conditions that apply to these activities. Tours and workshops may be seasonal; a reservation is required for museum visits.

History and church architecture

Réquista was founded as a bastide in 1292 by Henri II, Count of Rodez, and granted privileges. The Notre-Dame de Pitié chapel, also known as Notre-Dame de Landorre, later became Réquista’s parish church. The church was completely rebuilt in 1894, and its bell tower was built in 1927–1928. The Neo-Gothic architectural context belongs to this later period of development. The town’s founding and the history of the church’s construction therefore relate to different periods: 1292 marks the foundation, while the later dates place the church’s construction phases in context.

Plant dyes and indigo at Cazelle

Cazelle in Réquista is home to the Aveyron’s first dye garden. It is dedicated to plant dyeing and traditional craftsmanship. Guided tours introduce visitors to plants that produce natural textile dyes. Open introductory indigo-dyeing workshops offer a different experience: visitors make their own piece and can take it home. You can choose between a tour focused on dye plants and a workshop where you create your own piece. As tours may be seasonal and workshop dates may also depend on the season, check availability before your trip.

Marché Ovin: market and guided tours

Réquista’s weekly sheep market takes place on Monday mornings. If Monday is a public holiday, the market is held on Tuesday. The free guided tours of the Marché Ovin are a separate offering: they take place on Monday mornings at 9:30 a.m. in July and August; tours can also be reserved outside the season. The market schedule and the tour offering therefore follow different scheduling rules. Check the current arrangements before planning your visit around them.

Museum and trail in Lincou

The Musée de Lincou is located within the commune of Réquista and displays collections on alchemy and pharmacy, glass archaeology, cooking from the Middle Ages to the present day, and the development of weapons and science. The displays may change. A reservation is required for a museum visit; every visit also includes a free tour of the village. Please arrange your reservation in advance and check the current visiting arrangements.

At the Lincou tourist site, a walking trail runs along the Tarn within the commune of Réquista. The circular route has numerous picnic areas and shady spots for breaks. Alongside the historical and craft-related attractions, you can also enjoy a visit by the river. The picnic and shaded areas provide specific places to stop along the route.

Sports facilities and practical information

La Plaine des sports in Réquista includes a tennis court, a multi-sport court with an athletics track, a skatepark, a boules court, a fitness trail, a table tennis table and a beach volleyball court. There are also two picnic areas and play areas for children. The complex brings together a range of sports and recreational activities; check local arrangements before your visit.

The Office de Tourisme du Réquistanais in Réquista welcomes visitors year-round. As opening arrangements may change, it is advisable to check them before visiting. When choosing your travel dates, also bear in mind the seasonal tours at Cazelle, the Marché Ovin tour dates and the museum’s reservation requirement, as these are separate planning considerations. If you are looking for hotels in Réquista, you can plan your stay around the activities that interest you most.
