For a short discovery trip, Naucelle brings together several distinct themes: the history of an old Sauveté, half-timbered houses and a historic gate, signposted hiking and cycling routes, and regional specialties. You can choose what to focus on: the routes vary considerably in length and difficulty rating, while the market and tripous offer insights into local food culture. If you are looking for a hotel in Naucelle, you can plan your accommodation around the activities you have in mind.

Historic landmarks: from the Sauveté to the organ

Naucelle is an old Sauveté founded by Cistercian monks in the 12th century. The Chemin des moines recalls another monastic connection: it follows a route first used by Cistercian monks from Bonnecombe more than 800 years ago. Today, the signposted Chemin des moines runs from Bonnecombe (Comps-la-Granville) along paths and small roads to Bonnefon (Naucelle).

There are half-timbered houses on Rue du Four; the street was added to the register of historic sites in 1973. The Porte des Anglais is listed as a historic monument; in 1978, it was added to the supplementary register of historic monuments. The Church of Saint-Martin has an exceptional organ. Together, these historic landmarks span the town’s founding story, its streets and buildings, and a remarkable instrument.

Compare hiking and cycling routes

The “Le Moulin de Gary” hike, Circuit 4, starts at the church in Naucelle. It is 5 km long, has 130 m of cumulative elevation gain, and is marked in yellow. It also leads to the Moulin de Gary, a restored building of distinctive character. Route length and cumulative ascent describe different aspects of the hike; the yellow markings are another specific feature of the route.

Another option, “entre Sauveté et Bastide,” runs from Naucelle to Sauveterre de Rouergue; it is an 11 km loop. If route length is a factor in your choice, you can compare it with the 5 km hike.

For cyclists, “A la rencontre des chapelles” is a 45 km loop of moderate difficulty. It passes churches and chapels, exploring their history and legends, and offers 360-degree views over the valleys. The 55 km “Châteaux et Viaduc du Viaur” loop is rated difficult. The two routes differ in both length and stated difficulty level.

Market, tripous and other activities

La Naucelloise is a family-run cannery in Naucelle-Gare, known for its tripous. It offers self-guided visits with insights into the production process, a tripous museum and a shop. Check the access arrangements for this visit before your trip.
