Church art, sacred history and a treasure hunt offer different cultural ways to explore La Selve. For outdoor activity, there is also a circular walk and festivals featuring their own routes. When planning, the options differ not only in theme but also in season, registration and the stated route length.

Church Art and Architectural History

Free guided tours are available at St-Martial Church. Outside the season, visits are possible by prior arrangement; a seasonal tour schedule applies for 2026. Check the dates before your visit. In Lagarde, a village in La Selve, St-Martial Church features neo-Byzantine frescoes by NicolaĂŻ Greschny.

Another church, Notre-Dame, was built in 1835 on the site of the former castle chapel. The two churches therefore offer distinct points of interest: St-Martial, with its frescoes and guided tours, and Notre-Dame, with its architectural history and the site of the former chapel. A culture-focused stay can thus combine artistic details with a specific historical connection.

Festivals with Different Walking Options

The annual Fête du Muguet includes a 13 km walk around La Selve. The traditional Fête du Cabrit in Bégon includes walking and mountain biking routes with culinary stops. The differences are specific: the Muguet features a measured walking route, while the Cabrit combines several types of routes with culinary stops. If your visit is planned around one of the festivals, check the event dates for your travel period.

Exhibition and Treasure Hunt

The Salle d’exposition du Patrimoine Religieux et Templier de La Selve presents the liturgical calendar and sacred vestments, with their respective colours, in an educational format. Two panels explain La Selve’s history as a former Templar commandery. The subject therefore ranges from the church year and its vestments to the historical context of the village.

In 2026, the exhibition is free to visit during the church’s opening hours. Opening arrangements may change, so check the hours before your visit.

The “Chasse au trésor à La Selve” is a permanent game. Its route runs from the old gateway to the church via “Lo Buisson” square and “La Batuda” street. It is available year-round, unlike the exhibition, which can only be visited during the church’s opening hours.

Circular Walk and Landscape

The circular walk “Le ruisseau de Massebaque” is 7.35 km long and rated as an easy hike. It starts and ends at the car park opposite the village hall, by the town hall. Check route and access information before setting out, as route details may change. At 7.35 km, the circular walk is shorter than the 13 km walk at the Fête du Muguet. This offers two distinct ways to explore on foot: an independent circular route and a festival walk.

Several streams mark the boundaries of La Selve between the Ségala and the Plateau du Lévézou. This geographical context complements the village’s history with a connection to these two named landscapes.
