The Aveyron and the Serène flow through La Fouillade, while the hilly natural landscape, chestnut groves and six circular hiking trails shape a stay here. There is also an annual book and comic festival held at the end of July, sacred art and a guided tour focused on cocoa. When planning your trip, you can first decide what matters most: spending time outdoors, choosing a festival date, or including culture and food experiences.
Nature and Hiking
The well-preserved natural landscape is hilly, with chestnut groves, hiking trails and streams. The municipality offers six circular hiking trails. The rivers, terrain and groves give the natural setting different dimensions: La Fouillade is defined not only by its waterways, but also by its well-preserved landscape and trails. If hiking is your main reason for visiting, you can use the six circular trails as a starting point for planning and make the landscape part of the experience.
One trail runs partly along quiet local roads and wooded paths beside the Serène. Trail conditions may change, so check them before setting out. The different sections are also worth considering when planning your day.
Festival and Heritage
The Festival du livre et de la bande dessinée de La Fouillade has been held every year at the end of July since 1997. Around 50 book and comic authors take part in each edition. This makes the event a specific seasonal highlight for both literature and comic fans. If you would like to plan your trip around the festival, check the event dates in advance and arrange your stay around the confirmed dates.
There are also a variety of cultural attractions beyond the festival. The Chapelle de Souloumiac houses frescoes by Nicolaï Greschny, a painter originally from Russia. The Pont du Bouscal bridge over the Serène was restored at the end of 2010. The parish church in Arcanhac houses a reliquary monstrance classified as a protected object; the national heritage record was updated on 9 June 2026. The range of attractions includes frescoes, the history of a bridge and a protected sacred object. Culture here is not tied to a single event date.
Chocolate Tour
Chocolaterie du Nouveau Monde offers guided tours of its workshops, where cocoa beans are processed, and its laboratory, where its products are developed. The guided tour lasts between 1 hour 30 minutes and 2 hours. It is followed by a tasting and a hot drink. The duration makes this a standalone activity rather than a brief stop. Set aside enough time and check dates and availability in advance.
