In Comprégnac, unusual architectural history meets discoveries along the Tarn. In Peyre, the former church sits beneath a natural rock overhang at the foot of a cliff; today, it is used for craft exhibitions. The medieval building of La Maison de la Truffe is a remnant of the former castle of Comprégnac and forms the northwestern corner of the former fortified site. Visitors can sample black truffle ice cream and buy locally made truffle products. Peyre is designated as one of the “Les Plus Beaux Villages de France” and as a “Site Remarquable de France et d’Europe.” If you are weighing up architectural history and culinary delights, each offers a different focus: the former church as an exhibition venue beneath the rock, and the Maison de la Truffe as a medieval building where you can sample truffles.

Routes to Peyre and across the Causse Rouge

Trail N°05 - Peyre / Le Causse Rouge climbs to the heights of Peyre and crosses the Causse Rouge plateau between the Tarn and Muse valleys. It offers views of the village, the Tarn valley and the Millau Viaduct. The “VTT N°65 - Navas” mountain biking route starts at Parking du Rocher above the village of Peyre. It passes through mineral landscapes and deciduous forests and showcases some of the region’s most beautiful cazelles. These traditional Causses shepherds’ shelters give the route a tangible cultural dimension alongside its changing scenery. The routes offer different highlights: Trail N°05 focuses on the plateau and views, while VTT N°65 features cazelles, mineral landscapes and deciduous forest.

On the Tarn: paddling and river landscapes

On the Tarn, Katalpa Canoe offers canoe, kayak and stand-up paddleboard trips from its location at KATALPA campsite in Comprégnac. The routes are 7, 12 and 18 kilometres long, allowing you to choose by distance. Some routes pass beneath the viaduct and along the village of Peyre, which is partly built into the rock. If you are choosing between a scenic route and a river activity, each offers different points of comparison: Trail N°05 climbs to the heights and crosses a plateau, while Katalpa lets you choose by route length and type of paddling.

Les Douzes offers a different landscape from Peyre: this small hamlet lies in a green setting on the Tarn and is home to an old mill. Water quality for the Comprégnac (Pyramides) bathing area was published on 15 June 2026. Check the latest municipal information before swimming.
