Xertigny offers several clear reasons to visit: the Château des Brasseurs with its preserved interiors, hiking trails of varying lengths and seasonal activities by the water. If you are looking for accommodation in Xertigny, the purpose of your trip can help guide your choice. Are you mainly interested in experiencing architecture and history, hiking a particular route or planning a summer activity? The activities are available during different periods and focus on different things.

Castle and History

The Château des Brasseurs was built from 1885 onwards to plans by departmental architect François Clasquin. Inside, intricately crafted wood panelling, gilding and marble elements have been preserved. These different materials provide specific details to look out for during your visit. The Xertigny Tourist Office offers guided tours from May to September. If you are planning a visit, check the current tour schedule in advance.

Another historical topic is the “La Lorraine” brewery: in 1900, it employed up to 100 people. It closed in 1966 after a century of intensive activity. The figures for employment and the closure date outline a chapter in the history of brewing that is distinct from the Château’s construction and decorative details.

Circular Trails on Different Scales

The “Histoire en Marche” discovery trail is a 4.3-kilometre circular route through the village and forest of Xertigny. Information panels are located at key points; the trail is free to access and can be walked at any time. Its length and circular layout give it a clearly defined scope, while the panels guide you to important points along the route.

The “Xertigny Tour” project comprises 15 circular trails with a total of 150 kilometres of hiking paths: a 45-kilometre circular route around the municipality and 14 inner circular routes ranging from 1 to 15 kilometres each. This offers a wide variety of route lengths. Comparing them helps with planning: the discovery trail’s 4.3 kilometres are on a different scale from the long circular route around the municipality. Route information may change; check the details before planning a specific route.

Another hiking trail, “Le Pont Napoléon,” leads to a 35-metre-high stone bridge. The “Boucle patrimoine n°12 - du Coney à la Vôge” heritage loop follows small roads between Xertigny, La Chapelle-aux-Bois and Les Voivres. Along the way, you can discover natural treasures and architectural features. It offers a distinct focus on the connection between nature and architecture along the route linking the three places.

Seasonal Activities Along the Trail and by the Water

In summer, live performances featuring historical scenes are also offered along the “Histoire en Marche” discovery trail. If you would like to see these performances, check the current dates in advance. This lets you plan your visit to coincide with the seasonal programme.

The Rechentreux stream flows through the municipality of Xertigny at the Cascade du gué du saut. There is a picnic area, and several hiking trails also pass by the waterfall. You can therefore combine a picnic here with choosing one of the trails that passes by.

Canoes can be rented at Plan d'eau Les Woodies in July and August. This is a shorter availability period than the guided tours of the Château, which run from May to September; the two activities overlap in July and August. If canoe rental is essential to your trip, check current availability before making firm plans for the outing.

Choose Accommodation Based on Your Trip

If a guided tour or summer activity is a deciding factor, check the specific date or availability before booking. This way, your search is guided by the experiences you actually want to include in your plans.
