Ventron brings together two distinct travel interests: hiking on a network of marked trails and learning about its textile history. It is also home to Grand Ventron, Ventron’s highest point, the Chapelle de l’Ermitage Frère Joseph and the landscapes of the Réserve Naturelle du Massif du Grand Ventron nature reserve. During your stay, you can choose between outdoor activities and culture, and focus on what interests you most.

Hiking and Grand Ventron

The Club Vosgien maintains and marks Ventron’s hiking trails. There are more than 120 kilometers of trails in Ventron marked by the Club Vosgien. The network includes both family-friendly trails and long-distance routes. These different types of trails offer a starting point for planning your hikes: you can consider which kind of hiking best suits your travel plans.

At 1,204 meters, Grand Ventron is Ventron’s highest point. On the Chaume du Grand Ventron, an orientation table helps you identify the main peaks and the famous Route des Crêtes. If you would like to match names to the landscape, the table provides a practical guide. It includes not only Grand Ventron but also other peaks and the Route des Crêtes.

The two chaumes in the Massif du Grand Ventron lie at the heart of the Réserve Naturelle du Massif du Grand Ventron nature reserve. The protected area is home to remarkable wildlife and plant life. Alongside the trail network and the elevation, the protected landscape offers a distinct natural attraction.

Textile history at the Musée du textile de Ventron

The Musée du textile de Ventron grew out of the former Grand Ventron textile factory. The municipality bought the factory in 1988, and it became a museum in 1991. This sequence connects the museum’s present-day use with the factory’s history, giving your visit a clear historical context.

At the museum, you can follow the processing of cotton from bale to yarn. It also shows how looms have developed from the 18th century to the present day. These two topics offer different insights into textile production: one follows the journey of the material, while the other focuses on the development of weaving technology. The Musée du textile de Ventron also offers a weaving workshop where children and adults can try their hand at weaving. This hands-on activity complements the exhibits on cotton processing and looms.

Chapelle de l’Ermitage Frère Joseph

The Chapelle de l’Ermitage Frère Joseph is a protected historic monument. Residents of Ventron built it in 1757 for the hermit Frère Joseph. A pilgrim’s Mass is celebrated in the chapel on the last Sunday in July. If you would like to plan your visit around this occasion, check the event date in advance. There is a car park near the chapel.

Plan your hotel search around your travel plans

When searching for hotels in Ventron, it helps to decide in advance what you want to focus on during your stay: will hiking take center stage, or would you also like to make time for the Musée du textile de Ventron and the chapel?
