A marked hiking trail, the Source de Chaudefontaine and the Les Cucherons viewpoint give a stay in Vecoux some specific highlights. The Voie Verte des Hautes Vosges also passes through the town. When planning, you can choose between hiking, visiting a spring, taking in a panorama and following a route along a former railway line.

Hiking Trails and the Source de Chaudefontaine

The Reherrey and Chaudefontaine hike is 8.7 kilometres long, takes about three hours, includes 276 metres of elevation gain and is marked with blue rings. The time estimate is approximate; allow extra time for breaks and check the route details and markings again before setting off. The distance, elevation gain and markings give the hike a clear framework, while your own pace and breaks remain part of your planning.

From the hamlet of Reherrey, the trail climbs to the Source de Chaudefontaine. This natural spring has a constant temperature of 21°C all year round. Individual visits are possible on marked paths; conditions may vary seasonally. Check conditions on site before swimming or otherwise coming into contact with the water.

A circular route to the Source de Chaudefontaine reaches the La Charme peat bog and then follows the Reherrey stream. So, in addition to the spring, the route’s waypoints include a peat bog and a stream.

Voie Verte and Former Railway Line

The Voie Verte des Hautes Vosges passes through Vecoux and was laid out here on a former SNCF railway line. The route thus combines its present-day course with the history of the railway line on which it was created. This is a different focus from the trails to the spring: one highlights former infrastructure, while the other features named landscape points—the spring, peat bog and stream.

If you include the Voie Verte in your plans, check the current trail conditions. The reference to the former railway line describes how the route was created; it does not replace checking the conditions for your visit.

Les Cucherons: Views of Two Valleys

Mount Les Cucherons lies two kilometres southeast of the village of Vecoux. From the viewpoint, you can enjoy a panorama of the Moselle and Moselotte valleys. There is also an orientation panel at the site; check its condition before your visit.

Les Cucherons offers a scenic highlight, with the panorama and the two named valleys taking centre stage. By contrast, the Source de Chaudefontaine is defined by its natural spring, its constant year-round temperature and the possibility of individual visits on marked paths. These different features can help you choose the focus of an outing to suit your interests.

A Historical Point of Reference

Vecoux was formed in 1858 from the Ban de Longchamp. This date relates to the formation of the town; the former SNCF railway line, meanwhile, describes how the Voie Verte was created. Alongside the scenic destinations, there are therefore two distinct historical points of reference: the town’s formation and the use of a former railway line for the route.
