With 130 km of marked hiking trails, a 30 km Voie Verte, gardens, a museum and churches, Cornimont offers a range of options for a stay. If you are looking for accommodation, you can first consider whether trails and elevation changes or cultural attractions should be the main focus. The different routes and sights provide specific points of reference.
Hiking and Scenery in Cornimont
At 1,205 m, Grand Ventron is the highest point in the municipality of Cornimont. The marked hiking trail network covers 130 km and is maintained by the Club Vosgien. Croix de Mission offers panoramic views of the surrounding valleys. The landscape of the Réserve Naturelle Massif du Grand Ventron includes wooded areas, peatland clearings, secondary high-altitude pastures and extensive scree slopes. A Grande Randonnée trail crosses the protected area from north to south.
The Sentier des Colverts is a short pedestrian promenade along the banks of the Moselotte. It is about 1 km long, has no difficulties or significant elevation changes, and takes approximately 45 minutes to walk. The promenade carries the “Tourisme et Handicap” label. The Chemin du 6ᵉ RTM is 4 km long, has an elevation gain of about 275 m and features 14 information panels. Conditions on this trail may vary seasonally. Details for the Sentier des Colverts may be updated; check the latest information before setting out.
For cyclists, the Voie Verte from Remiremont to Cornimont is another planning consideration: the route is 30 km long and ends at the entrance to Cornimont. This also clearly identifies the route’s endpoint for planning your arrival.
Gardens, Museum and Buildings
In 2023, the Jardin et Objets des Panrées received the “Jardin remarquable” label from the French Ministry of Culture. The elevated garden grounds combine unusual, varied designs with views of the Vosges massif. Visitors looking to include designed garden spaces alongside trails and viewpoints will find a distinct cultural focus here.
The Musée des 1001 Racines contains 1,000 works and is housed in a former textile factory that was specially converted for this purpose. It displays works by Vosges artist Michel Maurice (1937–2014). Both its collection and the building’s former use as a textile factory are of interest when learning about the museum.
The Jardin de Bonnegoutte is dedicated to biodiversity. Roses, hydrangeas, perennials, aquatic plants, shrubs, vegetables and aromatic plants grow there. The two gardens have different focuses: at Panrées, the designs and views of the Vosges massif shape the experience, while biodiversity is at the heart of Bonnegoutte.
The Église Saint-Barthélémy was built in 1864 and features simple Neo-Gothic architecture. Self-guided visits are available; check visiting hours in advance. The statue of Notre-Dame de la Paix was erected in the early 1950s and can be visited independently at any time. The church and statue thus complement the garden and museum attractions with two distinct historical points of reference.
