Chantraine offers a range of options for a stay: a walk by the pond, striking cliffs in the Olima valley, woodland destinations and routes with historic names. There is also a dedicated VTTAE route for mountain biking. When planning your visit, you can first decide whether you would like to explore Chantraine on foot or on an electrically assisted bike ride.

Walks by the Étang de Chantraine

The grounds of the Étang de Chantraine are open to the public for walking, unless otherwise ordered. At the same time, public access is permitted exclusively for walking on foot. Before your visit, check local notices for any possible contrary orders. This clear condition helps you plan your visit to the pond as a walk.

The Olima rocks

Les roches d’Olima are striking cliffs in the Olima valley. They rise vertically to a height of 15 to 20 metres and consist of large puddingstone blocks separated by horizontal fissures. Their height, vertical form and segmented block structure give the rock formation its distinctive profile.

Forest trails and historic routes

The Les roches d’Olima route runs through shady woodland, follows a section of the Bouzey feeder canal and uses part of the former railway line that served the Épinal ring of forts. The forest, canal and former railway connection together shape the route. It is marked with a red disc and a blue cross.

The Grotte de Notre Dame lies in the heart of the Chantraine forest and is a destination for walks. It is another clearly identified option for making the forest the destination of a walk.

The Chemin des Princes continues under various current names: Rue de Champbeauvert, Rue Ponscarne, Chemin des Princes, Rue Français and Rue des Forges. It then crosses the territory of Golbey as a path as far as Bois-Labbé. The sequence of names is useful for finding your way: the route consists of several named sections and then continues as a path.

The cave and the Chemin des Princes offer different points of reference for planning: the cave is a walking destination in the forest; for the Chemin, the sequence of current names and its continuation as a path are the main features.

Mountain biking

The Circuit VTT n° 90 Moustache is a 16.7-kilometre VTTAE loop in Chantraine. It is marked with a blue FFC sign. As this marking may change if the route is redesigned, check the current route information before setting off. Its length and name give you specific guidance if you are looking for a route for electrically assisted mountain biking.
