Voyer brings together different aspects of a stay: sacred architecture, forest and a wine festival tradition. Its churches combine architectural design and religious art; the ForĂŞt communale, a walk along the Ruisseau and the trenches in the Bois de Voyer add landscapes and local heritage. The FĂŞte des vins, featuring wines from the RhĂ´ne Valley, adds a distinctive touch. This gives you a practical choice of focus when planning your trip, between architecture, nature and festival culture.

Church Architecture and Religious Art

The Église Notre-Dame in Voyer is built from Vosges sandstone. Its architectural features include a single-nave layout, a flat vault and a portal in the classical style. A single-nave layout has one main nave; the vault shapes the upper enclosure of the space, while the portal frames the entrance. This makes it possible to consider the building’s layout, interior design and portal as distinct aspects of church architecture.

The artworks also each have their own dates: the Champigneulle windows date from 1880. The wall paintings by M. KĂĽng, from 1932, depict scenes from the Old and New Testaments. They add religious imagery to the architecture and give the church another cultural dimension.

At the corner of Grand’rue and rue de la Chapelle in Voyer stands the Chapelle Saint-Hubert, an octagonal building. Its furnishings include an altar, statues, busts of saints, candles and other religious objects. The Église Notre-Dame and the Chapelle Saint-Hubert therefore differ in their architectural forms: one has a single nave, while the other has an octagonal structure. Together with their different furnishings, these features offer a concrete comparison between two sacred buildings.

Forest, Walks and Picnics

The ForĂŞt communale de Voyer consists of roughly equal proportions of deciduous and coniferous trees. This is a tangible feature of the forest landscape. One walking route follows the Ruisseau de Voyer into the forest. The composition of the forest and a walk along the stream thus offer two distinct ways to enjoy nature.

The forest is also part of the local heritage in the Bois de Voyer, where the trenches are among its features. In the Forêt communale de Voyer, a covered picnic area is available at Les Pieds Nickelés. You must register with the mairie to use it. If you would like to include the area in your plans, check its availability before your visit as well.

Wine Festival and Local Tradition

The Fête des vins de Voyer has been held since 1987 and puts wines from the Rhône Valley in the spotlight. The festival programme includes wine tastings, the blessing of a barrel, the christening of the winemaker’s baby, a Provençal hymn and a banquet. Individual programme items may change in future editions, so check the current programme before planning to attend on a specific date. The wine festival tradition offers a different focus from church architecture and the forest: here, wine and festival culture take centre stage.
