From watching glassblowers at work to following a route that is mostly forested, Meisenthal offers a range of reasons to visit. At the Centre International d’Art Verrier, the Musée du Verre and the Halle Verrière, glassmaking, local history and culture take centre stage. If you would rather spend time outdoors, consider the Circuit permanent du Mondfänger routes or go-karting as other highlights.

Glassblowing, collections and local heritage

At the Centre International d’Art Verrier, visitors can watch glassblowers at work from the mezzanine as they explain what they are doing. This offers a direct insight into the craft in action. The Centre preserves, reinterprets and shares centuries-old glassmaking know-how, recognised by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage of humanity. The boutique offers pieces designed by contemporary designers and made by glassblowers in Meisenthal.

The Musée du Verre offers a different focus: it displays exceptional works from Meisenthal, mostly inspired by nature, and conveys the local heritage of glassmaking. It also houses the hearth of the glassworks’ first furnace, whose construction began in 1704. If you are interested in design, you can explore these works and the history of glassmaking as different perspectives on the same local subject.

Culture in the former glassworks

The Halle Verrière is located in the glassworks’ former production unit. Today, it is a venue for multidisciplinary cultural creation and outreach. The annual programme features a range of formats: the street theatre festivals Demandez-Nous la Lune! and Il été une fois…, the children’s festival Wowox, contemporary art exhibitions and live music concerts under the Rock à l’Usine label. These concerts have capacity for up to 3,000 people. Tours of the venue and behind-the-scenes access to an event hall are available throughout the year. If you would like to plan your trip around a festival, concert or exhibition, check the programme dates for your stay.

Forest trail and go-karting

The permanent Circuit permanent du Mondfänger starts at Place Robert Schuman in Meisenthal. You can choose between a 10-kilometre and a 20-kilometre route; both distances provide a concrete guide for planning. The route is mostly forested, yet passes close to the emblematic Site verrier de Meisenthal. As trail markers and conditions may change, check them before setting out.

Another option is Karting de Meisenthal, located in a wooded valley surrounded by dense forest in the Parc Naturel Régional des Vosges du Nord. The track is 750 metres long and 7.20 metres wide. Karting requires advance booking.
