Folkling offers concrete starting points for a trip focused on hiking, landscapes and local history. The “Circuit des 2 villages sur un plateau” circular trail starts here. Other highlights include the panorama from the Plateau du Hunnenberg, the Église Saint-Éloi and a memorial to three Russian prisoners of war. These themes offer different reasons to choose Folkling as a destination.

Hiking and landscapes

The easy “Circuit des 2 villages sur un plateau” circular trail is 8.7 kilometres long and starts in Folkling. Its starting point, length and difficulty rating provide clear guidance for planning your day: the distance indicates the scale of the route, while the easy rating gives you an idea of its level of difficulty. Check trail conditions before setting out.

The Plateau du Hunnenberg offers a distinctive landscape, reaching an elevation of 371 metres. From there, you can enjoy a panorama of the Warndt Forest, the Lorraine plateau and the Vosges Mountains in Moselle. Forest, plateau and mountain scenery are all part of the view described. If landscapes are a key consideration when choosing a destination, this panorama offers a specific point of interest.

Cycling in the Pays de Forbach

A map of the cycling routes in the Pays de Forbach is available on the Folkling-Gaubiving municipal website to help you plan your ride. You can use the map for planning; its details may be updated. Check the information before your ride. The cycling map complements the hiking route, offering another way to plan your trip around your preferred activity.

Local history and remembrance

The Église Saint-Éloi was first mentioned on 7 September 1280. The grave of the three Russians commemorates another period in history: it marks the place where three escaped Russian prisoners of war, who were killed in 1945, are remembered. The dates refer to different points of reference—the church’s first mention and the commemoration of the three prisoners. Alongside its landscapes and outdoor activities, Folkling also offers an opportunity to explore local history. More than six centuries separate the church’s first mention from the killings in 1945.

A small chapel can be reached by a short, paved lane. One chapel is described as being in excellent condition. The church and the grave add to the site’s historical points of interest.

Organised hiking activities

The “Marche Frissonnante” was organised in Folkling in October; an adventure hike was also organised there in spring. The two activities differ in the seasons in which they are held. If you plan to make either one the reason for your trip, check the date of a specific event before booking your accommodation.
