Discover Château-Voué through its distinctive local attractions: the centuries-old “Chêne du Roi,” the rare hilltop Maison-forte, and activities involving puzzles or hands-on participation. Natural surroundings and architectural history sit alongside playful ways to explore. When planning your trip, it helps to ask yourself: would you rather focus on the forest and historic buildings, or on an experience centred on activities and participation?

Tree and fortified site

The “Chêne du Roi” is a centuries-old English oak. It is located in the Bride Forest, within the Lorraine Regional Natural Park and in the municipality of Château-Voué. The tree is therefore associated with the forest, the regional park and the municipality. For nature enthusiasts, this precise location is a distinctive connection to the area: the name Château-Voué is not just a place name here, but is also associated with the Bride Forest.

The Maison-forte also offers a clear historical focal point. Its site and remains were listed as a historic monument by decree on 24 December 1991. It is also a rare example of a fortified structure built on a hilltop. Its historic significance lies both in its protected status and in the unusual combination of fortifications, elevated position and rare building type. The Maison-forte thus offers a different focus from the old tree: here, the emphasis is on architectural form and historical context.

Puzzle trail and participation

The family trail “Balades ludiques – Château-Voué – Sotzeling,” listed for 2026, passes through the villages’ streets and landscapes. Solving puzzles and collecting clues are part of the experience. The activity adds a playful dimension to exploring the villages and countryside. It sets the trail apart from the area’s historic attractions: rather than focusing on buildings, it invites visitors to collect clues and solve puzzles.

The “École à la ferme” offering in Château-Voué, listed for 2026, provides another way to take part. It includes a wool workshop, age-appropriate workshops for children and a farm visit with hands-on participation. While the family trail combines puzzles and clues with the villages’ streets and landscapes, this offering focuses on the workshop and taking part in the farm visit. These are two distinct types of activity, without implying that they form a set itinerary.

Forest sculpture and village church

A forest sculpture also bears the name “Chêne du Roi.” It was presented during an opening tour on 7 June 2025 in the Château-Voué forest massif. The date places the presentation within a specific historical event. Alongside the centuries-old English oak, a sculpture with this name is therefore also among the area’s cultural attractions.

In the village, the parish church of Saint-Martin, dedicated to Saint Martin, lies east of the Maison-forte. Its dedication adds another religious connection to the area’s attractions, while its location establishes a specific spatial relationship with the fortified site. Together with the Maison-forte, it offers a glimpse of Château-Voué’s different architectural and cultural themes: a historic fortification and a parish church dedicated to Saint Martin.
