Mexy brings together the Sentier Nature, a landscape of plains and stream valleys, and a local history that includes buildings and archaeological finds. There are several interests to choose from during your stay: a walk featuring figures, fauna and flora; landscapes between the Plaine de Mexy and the Chiers; and historic buildings and archaeological sites. The oldest house in the town dates from 1578. You can make nature, landscape or history your main focus, depending on what you want to shape your trip.

The Sentier Nature

The Sentier Nature is at the end of Rue Jules Ferry, on the Longwy side of Mexy. On the walk, you can discover numerous figures as well as local fauna and flora. Both designed features and nature-watching are part of the trail. The nature area continues to evolve: the seasons and new designs change it. If you are planning a visit, check the exact access point locally.

Landscape between plain and valley

West of the Plaine de Mexy lies the valley of the Neuf Fontaines stream, with wooded foothills; the stream is a tributary of the Chiers. To the north, the Plaine de Mexy overlooks the Chiers valley. The landscape is therefore described through two different features: the stream valley and its wooded foothills to the west, and the plain above the Chiers valley to the north. The watercourse and the location of the plain each shape a distinct part of this landscape.

Buildings and archaeological finds

The oldest house in Mexy stands on Place de la Poste and dates from 1578. The former parish church of Saint-Barthélémy was built in 1736, but no longer exists. The two buildings relate to local history in different ways: the house is still standing, while the church is a former building. The dates give each of these historical landmarks a specific timeframe.

Archaeological finds add to the history of the buildings. A sarcophagus found in the locality of Marcolet is currently in the Longwy Museum. Traces of scattered buildings along a Roman road were found between the localities of Ratentout and Chemin du Fond de Senelle. Urns used to hold cremated remains were found in the locality of Fond des Vaux. The find locations and types vary, and include a sarcophagus, traces of buildings and urns.

Events in Mexy

Since 2006, the Comité des Fêtes de Mexy has organized numerous events and activities. Check the relevant dates when planning a specific trip. At the Salon des vins de France held from April 10 to 12, 2026, refreshments were available on site, and each visitor received a free engraved glass. These details apply to that edition. If a future edition matters to your trip, check whether and when it will take place and what it will offer.

Plan accommodation and transport

If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Mexy, the focus of your trip can help guide your search: a nature walk, the landscape or local history.
