A walk through the old town, exhibitions on contemporary architecture and a digital look at museum works give Briey a range of different highlights. There are also specific options when it comes to walks: you can focus on the historic centre or plan a walk with a stated distance and approximate duration.

Architecture, Art and History

La Première Rue holds several exhibitions of contemporary architecture and graphic art each year. The exhibitions change, so if you are interested in a particular topic, check the current programme. This lets you enjoy the recurring focus without expecting the same exhibitions every year.

On the ground floor of the Cité Radieuse in Val-de-Briey, designed by Le Corbusier, you will find Micro-Folie le Modulor. Visitors can explore museum works there via a large screen and a tablet, and use information and games created by museum curators. The Cité Radieuse is classified as a historic monument. Check the current visiting arrangements before your visit.

The Church of Saint-Gengoult is another historic landmark. This monument dates from the 12th to the 18th century and contains several classified works of art, including the Calvary by Ligier Richier. Briey therefore offers a choice of different highlights, from contemporary architecture to historic buildings and works of art.

Walks with Different Highlights

The Ligne Vieille-Ville route is named as a way through the old town and historic centre. It is part of the municipality’s landscape trail system. Les Lignes du Paysage comprises five walking routes in total: four explore Briey, while one connects Briey with Mance and Mancieulles. The information thus distinguishes between routes within Briey and a connection to the two other places.

For a walk with a more clearly defined time commitment, try the Circuit du bois des Moines in Val-de-Briey. It is six kilometres long, takes about one hour and 45 minutes, and starts at the Plan d'eau de la Sangsue. Unlike the Ligne Vieille-Ville route, which focuses on the old town, this walk has both a stated distance and an approximate duration. This makes it easier to choose based on your interests and timeframe, without treating the two walks as the same.

Water, Walking Routes and Historic Gardens

The Plan d'eau de la Sangsue was inaugurated in 1971 and redesigned in 2013. It covers nine hectares and is open year-round. Marked paths, children's playgrounds and food and drink options add to the site. As the Circuit du bois des Moines starts here, the lake is also a specific reference point for a walk with a stated distance and duration.

Les Jardins Oubliés tell a different story of how the landscape has been used: the dry-stone-walled terraces were once workers’ gardens and are gradually being brought back to life after decades of decline. Guided tours and educational visits are available on request. Check the visiting arrangements in advance if you are planning a visit of this kind.

Digital Activities for Young Visitors and Those with an Interest

The Maison des Mille Marches holds digital creative workshops for children and young people aged seven to 17 during every school holiday period. Check the specific dates and availability before visiting. Its FabLab is open to everyone and has, among other things, 3D printers, a laser cutter and a digital embroidery machine. The workshops and the FabLab offer different kinds of activities: one focuses on holiday programmes for a particular age group, while the other provides access to digital fabrication equipment.

When planning your visit, you can therefore choose according to your interests: the exhibitions and Micro-Folie focus on architecture and art; the Ligne Vieille-Ville route leads through the historic centre; and the Plan d'eau brings together paths and other activities. For certain visits and holiday workshops, it is worth checking the visiting arrangements or specific dates in advance.
