Saint-Junien-les-Combes offers two distinct points of interest for planning a trip: cultural history in the village and a named trail connected with the surrounding landscape. Several picnic areas add to the options. If you are looking for a holiday rental, you can first decide whether historical buildings and art or the Sentier des Agnelles and Étang de Charrain will play a bigger part in your itinerary. This lets you consider culture, a walk and a break as separate interests.
Church, Painting and Château
The church in Saint-Junien-les-Combes was rebuilt in the 19th century. The village is also home to the painting “Allégorie du Triomphe de la Mort,” which is classified as a protected historic object. Château de Sannat is a 17th-century château in private ownership. These offer different cultural points of interest: architectural history, a protected work of art and château history. As the château is privately owned, do not automatically assume it is open to visitors.
Saint-Eutrope Chapel: History and Directions
Saint-Eutrope Chapel is located next to the hamlet of Francour. It was rebuilt in 1846 after falling into disrepair. Together with the church, which was rebuilt in the 19th century, it provides a link to the architectural history of that period; 1846 is the specific year for the chapel. A procession to the chapel takes place on Ascension Day. Check current local dates if this event is important to your trip.
To reach the chapel, travel from Saint-Junien-les-Combes along the D72 towards Berneuil, then take the first road on the right. Check road conditions locally before setting off. The Place de l’Église, meanwhile, is the starting point for the Sentier des Agnelles.
Sentier des Agnelles and Picnic Areas
The Sentier des Agnelles starts at the Place de l’Église in Saint-Junien-les-Combes and passes by the Étang de Charrain. The Monts de Blond form the backdrop to the trail. The starting point, pond and surrounding landscape provide a clear frame of reference: they show where the trail begins, which body of water features along the way and which landscape defines the trail. This makes the walk a distinct option alongside the village’s historic points of interest.
There are picnic areas at four locations:
- at Place Bossé,
- at Étang de Charrain,
- in the village centre along the Bazine,
- next to the multi-purpose hall.
Étang de Charrain is a shared point of interest: it is both part of the Sentier des Agnelles route and one of the picnic locations listed above. If you would like to combine a walk with a break, you can include it in your plans for both. The other picnic areas offer additional named places to take a break in the village.
