Droux lies where the Semme valley and the Gartempe meet. The river landscape is only one part of the village’s character: it also has a Natura 2000 site, a variety of hiking trails and religious heritage. These themes offer different starting points for a trip; the trails are particularly easy to distinguish by their layout and connection to Droux.

Two trails, two route formats

The Chemin des deux moulins is a 9.4-kilometre circular hiking trail starting in Droux. The Voie Verte du Haut Limousin offers a different route format: its first section is also 9.4 kilometres long and runs from Magnac-Laval via Le Dorat to Luchapt, which is in the commune of Droux. The same distance, then, does not mean the same kind of outing. One route is defined by its circular layout and starting point; the other by the sequence of several places along a section. This comparison helps distinguish the trails by their route format and connection to the area. The section of the Voie Verte near Droux is also part of the d’Artagnan equestrian route. Its surface is considered suitable for families with strollers, people with reduced mobility and older people. Check the current conditions of the infrastructure before setting out.

Landscape and nature

The Chemin des deux moulins passes through the Limousin bocage landscape around Droux and offers views of the Semme and the mills. The hedgerow landscape, river views and mills give the circular trail a distinctive landscape character. The Buttes Ă  Gaudy are a separate natural feature: the area is designated a Natura 2000 site and consists mainly of dry heathland with heather and broom. The Buttes provide a habitat for protected plant and animal species. Both the landscape along the circular trail and the designated heathland are among the natural features that make Droux distinctive.

Churches and heritage

The Église Saint-Martial de Droux is one of the sights named along the local hiking trail. The church houses a set of two 19th-century processional banners dedicated to the Virgin Mary and Saint Martial. Their date and the two dedications give the set a specific historical and religious connection. Another chapel in Droux is known as the Chapelle de la Commanderie. Alongside the landscape and trails, the village also has several specifically named religious heritage features.

Choosing Droux as a destination

When looking for a hotel in Droux, first consider which focus best suits your trip: a circular hike, the landscape or the named cultural sights. The trails, the Buttes à Gaudy and the Église Saint-Martial offer specific starting points. This lets you choose the area based on your travel interests; you can then select accommodation according to your personal requirements.
