Porté-Puymorens lies in the Parc naturel régional des Pyrénées Catalanes and at the entrance to the valley of the Font-vives and Passet lakes. The valley ends at the Lanoux dam; lakes and mountain scenery also shape the choice of trails and activities. When planning, it is worth considering the different options: you can explore nature trails, include specific activities at Lac du Passet, or make a multi-day route the focus of your trip.
Valley trails and scenery
Le Chemin des Ingénieurs offers panoramic views and passes a lake with an impressive dam. On the way back, the trail runs through a forest of mountain pines and birches. Open views and wooded sections are among the highlights described for this route. Le Sentier des Encantades offers a different experience: it runs in the shade, passing several streams and a pond. The variety of flowers and plants also shapes this trail. Comparing the two descriptions reveals a range of different landscape features, rather than just a list of destinations.
There are opportunities for hiking, horseback riding and cross-country skiing towards the lakes and peaks of the Carlit massif. Conditions on the routes can vary depending on the season. These activities offer different ways to experience the mountain scenery; when planning, it is therefore important to consider your interests and the timing of your trip together.
Experiences at Lac du Passet and on the mountainside
At Lac du Passet, activities include horseback riding, Free’zbee golf, an aerial adventure course, easy hikes and fishing. There are several activities to choose from around the lake. Tyrovol is located above Lac du Passet and the Carol gorges, on the border with Andorra and Spain. The course consists of twelve consecutive zip lines with a total flight distance of almost 2,000 metres. Tyrovol is open to visitors who are at least 1.10 metres tall; no prior sporting experience is required.
Le Pied dans le Vide in Porté-Puymorens offers another perspective: the platform hangs on a mountainside and provides a 360-degree panorama of the snow-capped peaks of the Trio de la Haute-Cerdagne. Check the platform’s current operating conditions before you travel. Alongside the trails and activities by the lake, the village also offers a zip-line course and a panoramic viewpoint as distinct experiences.
A multi-day perspective on Carlit
The Tour du Carlit GR®P circles the 2,921-metre-high Carlit over three days. The route passes over high mountain passes and plateaus, as well as pastoral hamlets and traditional huts. The stated duration provides a clear multi-day framework; the landscape features show that the route is not limited to the summit, but also takes in different elements of the mountain scenery.
When choosing your stay, you can weigh up these different options: trails featuring lakes, streams and forests, activities at Lac du Passet, or the three-day circuit of Carlit. This lets you decide what to focus on during your trip without combining the individual activities into a fixed itinerary.
