Passa lies in the transition zone between the last foothills of the mountains and the Roussillon plain. The small River Passa runs through the village, then past the Monastir del Camp before flowing into the Réart. The village’s character is also shaped by wine-growing, the former monastery and the Saint-Luc hermitage. These themes offer different ways to discover Passa: its landscape and how it is used, as well as its architectural history and a walk to a viewpoint.

River landscape and wine-growing

The river connects the village with the Monastir del Camp and the Réart: it runs through Passa, then past the priory, and finally flows into the Réart. Agriculture offers a different perspective. Most of the agricultural land in Passa is planted with grapevines. Wine-growing is therefore not just a single visitor attraction, but shapes a large part of local agriculture.

At Domaine Spiaggia, you can enjoy seasonal cellar tours and tastings of organically produced wines. By reservation, the experience combines vineyard and cellar tours with wine tastings accompanied by regional cured meats and cheeses. Domaine Spiaggia also offers guided tours for individuals and groups in Passa. Since visitor activities are seasonal, check the reservation terms and current availability before your trip.

The priory and church art

The Priory of Saint-Estève de Monastir del Camp in Passa is a former Cistercian monastery dating from the 11th century. The complex dates from the 11th and 13th centuries and has been protected as a historic monument since 1862. The priory is arranged around a Gothic cloister. Those interested in monastic architecture will find several specific points of interest here: its former role as a Cistercian monastery, the different centuries in which it was built, and the cloister as a defining architectural feature.

Another trace of history leads to Passa’s former parish church. It is Romanesque in style and dedicated to Saint Peter. Its furnishings include several Baroque altarpieces, a holy-water font and two painted panels from the 16th century. The church also has furnishings from the 18th century. In this way, the church’s artworks add further periods and a distinct dedication to the priory’s history.

Saint-Luc and the walk to the viewpoint

The Saint-Luc hermitage stands on Puig Rodon at an altitude of 204 metres. It offers a remarkable view over the Roussillon plain and is also a place of pilgrimage. Its religious significance and views make the hermitage a destination in its own right, alongside the village’s historic buildings. A walk in the area around the Monastir del Camp priory leads to the hermitage. If you plan to take this route, check local conditions.

Passa in the wine-growing region

Beyond the village, the “La Plaine du Roussillon” tour passes through several places in the wine-growing region, including Passa. It offers a regional perspective on the wine-growing area, while visits to Domaine Spiaggia and the vineyards provide a local connection. The route may change, so check it before setting off. This lets you explore the historic sites, Saint-Luc and wine-growing as separate points of interest, without combining them into a single excursion.
