Saint-Germain-Du-Teil offers several different ways to enjoy a stay: the neo-Gothic church and fountains reflect the area’s architectural and village history, while the reconstructed bread oven represents a baking tradition that was intended to be passed on at village festivals. There is also a farm visit centered on Laguiole AOP fermier, as well as trails with views across varied landscapes. You can therefore focus on heritage, local production or outdoor activities.

Church, fountains and village history

The church of Saint-Germain-Du-Teil is a neo-Gothic building dating from 1880. Its bell-wall tower has four arches, each holding a bell. The Croix de Rouby is another kind of monument: the granite cross was erected as a mission cross between 1885 and 1888.

The water sources also tell the story of different uses. The Fontaine du Poujaux is a vaulted spring carved into limestone. The Fontaine de la Place de l’Ayral has four spouts; in the past, both animals and residents used its water. It also served as a meeting place where residents exchanged news. At the entrance to the village, the Allée des Tilleuls leads to the former boys’ school. The reconstructed village bread oven was set up so that the traditional bread-making method could be passed on to younger generations at village festivals.

Farm visit and treasure hunt

If you’d like to learn about local production, you can visit La Ferme du Teil. The visit focuses on the farm, its cows and the production of Laguiole AOP fermier. You can also taste the farm’s own Laguiole cheese during your visit. Contact the farm beforehand to confirm the arrangements for visiting.

Hidden treasures, signposted boards and clues are part of a geocaching or treasure-hunt activity in Saint-Germain-Du-Teil. Check the local arrangements before setting off.

Trails and landscapes

The Le petit patrimoine trail runs from Saint-Germain-Du-Teil to a viewpoint. From there, you can see the southern Margeride and the Grands Causses, with the Cévennes in the background. Check current trail conditions before setting out.

The Chemin de Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert leads to the entrance to Saint-Germain-Du-Teil; from there, take the road to reach the church.

The mountain biking routes offer different kinds of scenery: Autour des trois croix – VTT No. 16 runs along the foothills of the Aubrac on small roads and forest tracks, passing hamlets such as Tioulet, La Cazette, Le Ferréol, Montagut, Montagudet, Le Pouget and Mascoussel, with views over the Lot Valley. Les contreforts de l’Aubrac – VTT No. 15 runs between small streams and forests and offers scenic viewpoints.
