Camurac offers a range of reasons to visit: a long route through changing landscapes, a ski area, a cycling climb, and cultural and natural attractions. When planning, it helps to first decide on the season and the focus of your trip.

From Forest and Meadows to the Ridgelines

The long Les CrĂŞtes de Camurac route starts in the village of Camurac. It first passes through forest, then through blueberry patches and high-altitude meadows, before reaching the ridgelines. At Roc de Quercourt, at 1,820 m, you can enjoy a 360-degree view over the Plateau de Sault and the Pyrenean peaks. Visibility depends on the weather; terrain and weather conditions can also vary. If long-distance views are important to your plans, take this caveat into account when choosing your dates. The route combines a distinct succession of landscapes with a viewpoint on the ridgelines.

Ski Area and Outdoor Activities

The Camurac ski area has 11 runs, from green to black, served by four ski lifts. The Camurac summit station has a beginners’ area with a drag lift, as well as a ski and snowboard school with a snow kindergarten. As skiing is seasonal and lessons may also be offered seasonally, check operating hours before your trip.

Another activity is Corde Game, which features games, balance challenges, crossings and cooperative elements, and is open to children aged six and over. This combination is quite different from the winter sports on offer and provides a distinct focus for trip planning. Also check the seasonal schedule for Corde Game before you arrive.

Cycling with Specific Measurements

Montée Simon CARR is a cycling climb at Col du Teil. It is 5.150 km long, with an average gradient of 7.7%. This figure describes the average gradient over the climb. Its length and average gradient make it possible to assess this cycling option. By comparison, Les Crêtes de Camurac is defined above all by the changing landscapes of forest, blueberry patches, meadows and ridgelines: the two named routes appeal to different planning interests.

Two Details from Local History

The processional banner of Saints Just et Pasteur dates from the 19th century, is associated with the church in Camurac, and is protected as a movable cultural object. Its age, connection to the church and protected status are thus clearly established. Further down, the Moulin du Pas also had a sawmill. The banner and the mill represent different aspects of local culture and history.

A Nature Experience in Early Spring

Every year in early spring, migrating amphibians cross the roads around Lac de Camurac on their way to their breeding grounds. These include frogs, toads and newts. This seasonal natural feature offers a different timing consideration from the ski area: amphibian migration is especially relevant in early spring, while ski operations should be checked seasonally. Along with weather-dependent visibility from the ridgelines, the changing seasons provide practical guidance for choosing your travel dates based on your preferred focus.
