Discover Créteil through a range of distinct, tangible attractions: a church listed as a historic monument, a château inspired by Italian architecture, striking modern buildings and historic green spaces. There is also a long green route and places where exploring nature is part of the experience. You can choose a cultural or scenic focus for your stay.

Heritage and architecture

The Église Saint-Christophe has been listed as a historic monument by decree since 19 October 1928. The Colombier de Créteil is one of the oldest dovecotes in Île-de-France. Exhibitions are now held there, and guided tours are also offered regularly. As availability may vary, check the latest booking information before visiting.

The Château des Mèches was built around 1850 in the style of an Italian villa, replacing a manor house dating from the 17th century. The Cathédrale de Créteil represents a different architectural period: thanks to its contemporary architecture, it is considered part of the heritage of the 21st century. The Barrage de Créteil adds an industrial detail to this architectural history; it dates from 1900 to 1902.

The Choux de Créteil make a striking modern statement. In 2008, the French Ministry of Culture awarded them the “Patrimoine du XXe siècle” label. The complex consists of ten towers, each with fifteen floors. They are recognisable by their leaf-shaped, projecting balconies—a distinctive design that sets the buildings apart from the historic structures.

Green spaces and exploring nature

Parc Dupeyroux is a 19th-century English-style garden covering 3.5 hectares. It contains an Italian-style loggia villa inspired by a building in Verona. Some of the park’s trees are more than 200 years old. The architecture, garden design and ancient trees offer different perspectives on the area.

At the Île de loisirs de Créteil, Nature & Société has been running the Maison de la Nature since 2003. The organisation also offers nature workshops and family outings in Île-de-France. Specific activities may vary, so check what is available if you are planning a particular activity.

La Végétale is a 20-kilometre green route between Créteil and Santeny, with numerous paths for pedestrians and cyclists. An accessibility description published in 2022 states that the route is accessible to people with reduced mobility. If needed, check the current conditions before setting out, especially if this accessibility information is important to your plans.

Getting there and finding your way

Créteil is served by Paris Métro line 8; for your specific journey, check the latest timetable. According to route information published in 2022, the starting point of La Végétale at the Pompadour car park is a ten-minute walk from Créteil-Pointe du Lac Métro station. Check current connections before travelling. Another distinctive structure is the Barrage de Créteil: a lock on the left bank allows you to cross.
