Chaville combines wooded landscapes with tangible traces of its history. A total of 156 hectares are wooded; forests cover half of the municipality. There are also circular walking routes of varying lengths and difficulty levels, locally rooted wine-making, and a three-dimensional reconstruction of the Château jardin de Chaville, destroyed in 1764. This lets you tailor the balance of nature trails, culture and local history to your interests.

Discover forests and ponds

The state-owned Fausses-Reposes Forest is part of Chaville’s protected natural heritage. Its wildlife includes deer, foxes, martens and green woodpeckers, among other species. The Meudon Forest is also part of the Chaviller Parcours découverte. Another route leads to Étang d’Ursine, where the amphibian population, including frogs and toads, is considered exceptional. The ponds in the Fausses-Reposes Forest are said to have been painted by Corot.

The walk from the Étangs de Corot towards the Fausses-Reposes Forest starts at Chaville Rive Droite station and heads towards Ville-d’Avray. Along the way, it invites you to observe the vegetation and birdlife. This offers a different nature theme from the wildlife observations and Étang d’Ursine: here, plants and birds take centre stage.

Choose walks by length and difficulty

The distance, elevation gain, difficulty level and starting point are provided to make it easy to compare two circular walks. The walk through the Fausses-Reposes Forest is rated easy, measures 5.9 kilometres and has a total elevation gain of 107 metres. It starts and ends at Chaville Rive Droite station.

The Balade forestière Chavilloise is a moderately difficult circular walk of 7.3 kilometres with a total elevation gain of 75 metres. It starts and ends at Chaville Rive Gauche station on SNCF line N. Although this circuit is longer, it has less total elevation gain than the shorter route through Fausses-Reposes. When choosing between the two, you can therefore consider not only the kilometres, but also the difficulty rating, elevation gain and starting point.

Another option is the Chaviller Parcours découverte. It consists of three themed maps: “Patrimoine et histoire”, “Arbres remarquables” and “Art et Nature”. The route passes through streets and lanes, parks and gardens, and the Meudon and Fausses-Reposes forests. Botanical, artistic and historical discoveries sit side by side, with each of the three maps focusing on a different theme.

Historical traces and cultural venues

Chaville’s 16 historic boundary markers lead through various neighbourhoods. They tell the story of places, buildings and activities from different periods. One distinctive remnant of local history is the Porte de la Mare Adam: it is the last surviving relic of a 17th-century estate.

You can also explore the Château jardin de Chaville through its three-dimensional reconstruction. The château was destroyed in 1764; the reconstruction includes not only the château but also its outbuildings, menagerie, village and gardens. It therefore gives a view beyond the main building, encompassing the other elements of the estate.

The Atrium de Chaville has an event and cinema hall with 638 seats. It also has flexible spaces for exhibitions, seminars and conferences. These uses set the venue apart from the outdoor historical sites: the focus here is on cultural events and adaptable spaces.

Wine-making and other activities

Chaville also has a vineyard: 350 vines grow on an 800-square-metre plot on the hillside near the Rive Droite railway line. The vineyards produce “Chavignon” every year. Residents help with the annual grape harvest, after which the wine is bottled.

Accrocamp ForĂŞt de Meudon is located in Chaville and offers courses for people aged 3 to 99, as well as a net area for younger children. This activity, with specified age ranges, complements the walking trails and cultural venues. When looking for a hotel in Chaville, you can first consider whether nature trails, historical traces or cultural offerings should be the focus of your stay.
