At the Base de la Saline, a natural area in the heart of Lure, you can go canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding and ride a fun boat on the pond. The Parcours Vitae adds a forest trail. This gives you a clear choice when planning your trip between activities on the water, nature on the slopes of Lure, and the themes of urban history and culture.
Nature by the pond and in the forest
The Base de la Saline is a natural area in the heart of Lure. On the pond, you can go canoeing or kayaking, use a paddleboard or ride a fun boat. Operating periods for the activities may vary; check availability before your visit. Water activities are therefore a key feature of the Base de la Saline.
Another natural highlight is the Parcours Vitae: this 1,840 m-long forest trail covers 8.5 ha on the slopes of Lure. It includes footpaths and a picnic area. Pedunculate oaks, lime trees, beeches and hornbeams grow along the trail. In contrast to the Base de la Saline, the focus here is on walking through the forest and the picnic area, while the pond is the setting for the activities there. The trail length describes the route, while the area in hectares indicates the size of the site—two different measurements for the Parcours.
Urban history between the abbey and the neighbourhood
Lure’s architectural heritage reflects the city’s history and development. The sub-prefecture of Lure is housed in a former Benedictine abbey. Opposite the former abbey is the Étang de la Font. The landscaped park of the abbey is in the Quartier de la Font, Lure’s oldest neighbourhood, and provides a setting for walks.
The historic town trail features 24 significant elements of the city’s history, offering another way to explore its heritage. Georges Colomb is also part of Lure’s cultural history: he was born in Lure and is also known by the name Christophe.
Cultural events and special places
The Auditorium de Lure is a venue for the performing arts. It regularly hosts theatre, music and other related events. The cultural season runs from September to June; individual event dates vary. So if you are planning a cultural visit, take the specific event date into account.
The M.U.R. is a cultural installation located behind the Espace Cotin and next to the Auditorium de Lure. The escape game “La menace cachée” uses puzzles about Lure’s history and sights. Check whether the game is available before your visit.
