A Ramsar lagoon, significant bird populations, panoramas and a trail featuring contemporary poetry offer different ways to explore Ventiseri. When planning your trip, you can consider nature watching, activities by the water and culture as separate focuses.

Getting There and the Panoramic Trail

From Travo, you can reach Ventiseri by leaving National Road 198 and following Departmental Road 45. The panoramic trail also starts in Travo: it follows the D45 through the village of Ventiseri and offers some of the municipality’s finest panoramas. To get there, take the N198 and then the D45; for the trail, also note its starting point, route through the village and panoramic purpose. Before setting out, check local road conditions and signage, as both may change.

Lagoon and Birdlife

Etang de Palo has been designated a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance since September 15, 2008. This well-preserved natural lagoon covers 212 hectares and is home to significant populations of migratory and resident birds. The two terms distinguish between birds that migrate and species that live there. Thus, the nature experience centers not only on the lagoon landscape itself, but also on birdlife and its different patterns of presence.

Water and the Trail

In the Travo valley, you can swim in natural pools along the route; water hikes are also possible there. These are different ways to spend time by the water: swimming in the pools or taking a water hike. Water conditions may vary seasonally. Check conditions and safety before entering the river.

The trail around Etang de Palu belongs to Ventiseri and Serra. It is accessible year-round, easy, and suitable for families. The circular route is 4.8 kilometers long and takes about an hour. Its distance and approximate duration provide a clear sense of how much time to allow. As access and trail conditions may change, check both before your visit.

Poetry, Architecture and History

The Sentier poétique Charles-Jean Simonpoli was inaugurated on May 14, 2023, and is dedicated to the memory of Charles-Jean Simonpoli. Contemporary poetic works are presented along the trail, including French translations of works in the Corsican language. The trail thus combines a memorial tribute with a literary theme that gives a place to the Corsican language and its French translations.

The Chapelle Saint-Pancrace (Travo) has a single nave, a semicircular apse and Tuscan capitals. Wood paneling can be found in both the nave and the choir. A single-nave layout means one main space rather than several naves; the semicircular apse forms the rounded end. These architectural features can be understood through their specific components. The ruins of Covasina Castle, also known as Castello di Carlomagno, date from the 9th century and the Carolingian era.
