San-Nicolao cannot be reduced to a single travel theme: heritage, the coast and outdoor activities reveal different sides of the area. The choice ranges from historic buildings to the seaside resort of Moriani-Plage, as well as hiking trails along the Costa Verde and activities around Ucelluline. Which themes suit your stay depends primarily on whether you want to focus on culture, the beach or getting active.
Coast, beach and activities
Moriani-Plage is the seaside resort on San Nicolao’s Tyrrhenian coast. Plage de Padulella in Moriani-Plage is a very large fine-sand beach dotted with lagoons. From June to September, Costa Verde Aventure offers banana boat rides, canoeing and kayaking, pedal boating, stand-up paddleboarding, water skiing and wakeboarding at Moriani beach. The seasonal window is relevant for your planning; check the specific offerings for your travel dates. If you would rather hike than take part in water sports, the hamlets of San Nicolao provide starting points for numerous hiking trails along the Costa Verde. Beach activities with a stated season and trails starting in the hamlets offer different focuses for outdoor activities.
Historical traces in San-Nicolao
The Aqueduc de l’Ercate was more than a kilometer long and ended at the former Moriani forge, which no longer exists. The aqueduct is visible from the road leading up to the village. Its historic endpoint and a specific viewpoint thus provide two different points of reference. The parish church of San Nicolao adds its own chronology to this perspective: it was completed in 1717 and designated a historic monument on October 6, 1976. Its architectural features include a nave and five richly decorated side chapels. Its completion and later designation mark different milestones in the church’s history.
Ucelluline: waterfall and canyoning
The Cascade de l’Ucelluline lies on the border between Santa Maria Poghju and Santu Nicolaiu. Two tunnels carved into the rock frame the waterfall along a scenic road. Guided canyoning is available in the San Nicolao area; the activity is associated with the Ucelluline area. The waterfall and tunnels therefore represent a different connection to the landscape than the guided outdoor experience. If canyoning interests you, check availability in advance, as conditions and offerings may vary.
Activities at Parc Aventure de Moriani
Parc Aventure de Moriani is located at Lieu-dit Suarti in San-Nicolao. It has nine treetop climbing courses for all ages and difficulty levels, accessible from the age of three. There are also inflatable castles for children. The climbing courses and inflatable attractions are different types of activities within the same park. The course layouts and offerings may change. If you plan to visit the park, therefore confirm the current options before your visit.
A cultural event in late July
The Padul’Ella Festival features exclusively female singing and usually takes place in late July. Exact dates may vary from year to year, so check the event dates if you are planning a trip around this time. The festival adds a cultural highlight tied to a specific time of year, while the aqueduct and parish church are associated with historical themes.
