Morosaglia combines a rich architectural heritage with panoramic views of chestnut and oak landscapes. The town offers several distinct points of interest when choosing a place to stay: sacred architecture, the history of Pascal Paoli and the Genoese bridge U Ponte di A Leccia. Those interested in one of these aspects can consider the others as further facets of the town, rather than reducing Morosaglia to a single monument.

Churches and Architectural History

U Cunventu in Morosaglia was built between 2 April 1623 and 1716. The building is currently closed to visitors for safety reasons; check access again before travelling. The parish church of San Francescu contains the tombs of Clemente Paoli and Alfieru Elaminiu Pulidori. For architecture enthusiasts, Santa Reparata offers another point of comparison: the Romanesque church dates from the 12th or 13th century and has a semicircular apse. Pascal Paoli was baptised there. The history of sacred architecture thus brings together a long construction period, named tombs and a specific connection to a baptism.

U Ponte di A Leccia and the Chapel of Saint Martin

U Ponte di A Leccia is in the hamlet of Ponte Leccia in Morosaglia and crosses the Golo. The humpbacked Genoese bridge was built before 1679. It was later designated a historic monument by decree dated 18 June 1928. The construction date and monument status therefore refer to two different points in time: construction is dated to before 1679, while its formal designation dates to 1928. The Chapel of Saint Martin stands at the foot of the bridge. Alongside the bridge’s shape and history, it adds another specific point of interest to this named place.

Pascal Paoli: Baptism, Work and Remembrance

The Paoli connections encompass several different historical roles. Pascal Paoli was baptised at Santa Reparata. The Musée Pascal-Paoli preserves memories of the “Father of the Fatherland” and presents his work in 18th-century independent Corsica. Paoli has rested in the family chapel since 1889. His baptism, the presentation of his work and his resting place represent different aspects of his legacy. They give a visit a cultural and historical focus that goes beyond viewing individual buildings.

Landscape and Townscape

Morosaglia offers panoramic views of landscapes with extensive chestnut and oak groves. The municipality also lies within the ZNIEFF zone of the Massif de San Petrone. The inventory dated 12 June 2025 gives its area as 1,380.87 hectares and lists the zone as a protected forest. The panoramas provide a view of the landscape; the ZNIEFF information adds dated details about its area and protected status. The townscape can also be explored through specific features: Morosaglia preserves old slate houses with roofs covered in slate tiles. Together with its Romanesque and Baroque religious buildings, these offer a view of the built environment that takes in both homes and sacred architecture.

Planning Your Drive

The D71 departmental road runs through Morosaglia, connecting it with the Col de Prato and La Porta. This provides a specific point of reference for planning your drive. As road conditions can change, it is advisable to check them before setting out.
