At the Embouchure du Fangu, two very different ways to experience Galeria come together: a promenade with a clearly defined endpoint, and kayaks for exploring the old channels of the Fangu. If you would rather plan your stay on two wheels, you can choose GT20 Stage 6 from Galeria to Portu (Porto) as your own route. Its distance, elevation gain and climb to Col de Palmarella give the cycling route a clearly defined profile. This lets you decide whether to focus on exploring on foot, on the water or by bike.

Protected river landscape and pebble coast

The Embouchure du Fangu area covers 128.23 hectares of protected land and is open to the public. At the foot of the village lies Plage de Galéria, a pebble beach. It is accessible to people with reduced mobility; accessible facilities include a mat and a wheelchair. The distinctive surroundings of the Fangu Delta are part of the Falasorma Dui-Sevi Biosphere Reserve, whose designation is recognised by UNESCO. Before your visit, check the conditions in the protected area and the current facilities at Plage de Galéria.

Promenade and exploration on the water

The promenade in the Embouchure du Fangu area ends at Ponte e Cinque Arcate and marks the transition to the Fangu and Marsolinu valleys. If you are on foot, this gives you a specific endpoint. On the water, the focus is different: at the small pebble beach below the rocky outcrop of the Tour de Galéria, you can rent kayaks to explore the old channels of the Fangu. The two options offer different experiences: the promenade leads to a named crossing, while kayaking lets you explore the river channels. Check kayak rental availability in advance.

Tour de Galéria: views and construction history

The Tour de Galéria overlooks the mouth of the Fango and the Golfe de Galeria. The tower was built between 1551 and 1573. In 1977, the Association de la Route des Jeunes restored it with the aim of converting it into a stage accommodation (gîte). The construction and restoration mark two different chapters in the tower’s history: its origins in the 16th century and the later plan to turn it into a stage accommodation.

The GT20 stage to Portu

GT20 Stage 6 from Galeria to Portu (Porto) is 51 kilometres long and has 722 metres of elevation gain. One clearly defined section is the 11.3-kilometre climb to Col de Palmarella: it includes 379 metres of elevation gain and gradients of between 3 and 8 percent. These figures describe different scales: 51 kilometres is the stage distance, while 722 metres is the total elevation gain for the stage; the pass climb is described separately by its length, elevation gain and gradients. When planning, you can therefore take into account both the entire route and this specifically named climb. The stage passes through landscapes with views of the Scandola Nature Reserve, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Route conditions can change; check them before setting out.
