Calvi brings together religious heritage, art, maritime history and the beach. When planning your trip, these highlights can be easily distinguished: heritage listings and artworks mark different points in time, while beach access and views offer a different focus. This allows you to tailor your hotel stay to your own interests.

Churches, artworks and heritage listings

The Église Sainte Marie-Majeure has been classified as a historic monument since 5 December 1988; the Cathédrale Saint-Jean-Baptiste since 10 August 1920. Both dates refer to the respective classifications, not to the years the churches were built. The Cathédrale also houses a triptych by the Genoese artist Barbagelata, dating from 1498. As a three-panel artwork, it offers a different point of reference in time from the classification dates.

Another landmark of religious heritage is the Chapelle Notre Dame de la Serra, built in 1479. The Oratoire Saint Antoine Abbé is a chapel decorated with frescoes; it has been classified as a historic monument since 15 July 1976.

Contemporary art and maritime history

The Musée des Arts de la Citadelle de Calvi displays works from the city's contemporary art collection; admission is free. This means Calvi offers two distinct connections to art: the triptych from 1498 and the contemporary collection. Check the current exhibition program and access conditions before your visit.

Maritime history can be traced along a different timeline: construction of the Phare de la Revellata, also called the Phare du golfe de Calvi, began at the end of 1838; it entered service in 1844.

Beach access and views

Calvi beach is accessible from the town center via a wooden promenade along the pine grove. The Tramway des plages serves the beach along its entire length. These two details answer different planning questions: the promenade describes access from the center, while the Tramway provides transport along the beach. Check transport arrangements and stop names before travelling.

The Chapelle Notre Dame de la Serra offers panoramic views across the entire Bay of Calvi and the Réginu Valley as far as Lumio. This named vista combines coastal and valley views from a single viewpoint. Access conditions may vary, so it is advisable to check before your visit.

Travel dates and hotel search

The celebration of Notre Dame de la Serra takes place every year in early September; the exact date may vary from year to year. With a more flexible stay, you can choose to focus on religious heritage, contemporary art or the beach. If the celebration is important to you, check the date for the year in advance.
