If you choose Cagnano for a getaway, you can focus on specific themes: a historic mill that is still working, a shady riverside trail, protected buildings and a sandy beach. This brings together cultural and nature interests without requiring you to devote your days to just one attraction. When choosing a hotel, the first thing to consider is what kind of discovery you want to shape your stay.

A mill with two working areas

The Moulin de SAVINA, also known as the “Biaggi” Mill, is located in the hamlet of Terre Rosse in the municipality of Cagnano, on the banks of a river. The historic mill has been operating continuously since the end of the 19th century. Its current use is also clearly divided: corn and chestnut flour are still produced in the upper part, while the lower part is used as an oil mill. The specific organization of production may vary.

This division makes the mill an especially tangible local attraction: it is not just a historic building, but a place where different forms of traditional processing take place within the same mill. “Biaggi” Mill is another name for the Moulin de SAVINA. When planning your trip, it helps to know that both names refer to the same mill.

Riverside trail and historic buildings

The “Les moulins de Mitile” trail starts in the hamlet of Ortale and follows the river in shady conditions. It leads to the remains of three mills and a Genoese bridge. The route therefore brings together riverside scenery and architectural history. Unlike the still-operating Moulin de SAVINA, the trail leads to the remains of mills; the two attractions show different sides of the history of milling. Trail surfaces and access conditions may vary. Check conditions before setting out.

Cagnano’s protected heritage also includes two clearly identified buildings. The chapel of the Ancien couvent d’Oveglia is protected as a historic monument under an inscription order dated January 30, 1990. The Tour de Losso has been protected in its entirety as a historic monument since December 17, 1926. For culture-minded travelers, these buildings add to the story of the mills: the chapel and tower are independent historic landmarks alongside the riverside route and the mill.

Beach and pre-booked visit

Porticciolo Beach, in the locality of Misincu, is sandy and easily accessible via the D80. Facilities and access conditions may change; if needed, check specific access details in advance. The Domaine TERRA di CATONI in Porticciolo, Marine de Cagnano offers a different kind of outing: vineyard and wine cellar visits by off-road vehicle are available by reservation. A reservation is required for this visit; confirm the date and availability in advance.

These are different priorities to consider when planning your trip: the mill trail combines a shady riverside route with historic destinations, while a visit to the Domaine requires a reserved time slot. The beach offers another option, with sand and access via the D80. When choosing your accommodation, first consider which of these aspects you would most like to shape your getaway.
