When planning a trip to Belgodère, there are two main areas to focus on: the village’s cultural sites and the landscape of Losari. When choosing accommodation, you can first consider which of these you want to shape your stay. The destinations below range from historic buildings to a protected natural area and specific outdoor activities.
Village History and Historic Buildings
From the rocky outcrop of E Teghje, you can look out over the Reginu plain, the sea and the mountain side of the village. Visible remains of a medieval fortification tower dating from the 16th century have also been preserved there. The fortified part of Belgodère is accessed through three vaulted entrances and includes the Cima du Fondu and Cabanne districts.
In the heart of Belgodère stands the parish church of San Tumasgiu è Gavinu, which is listed as a historic monument. It was founded in 1560; its choir dates from 1792. Another stop for architecture and craftsmanship is the Chapelle Saint-Jean, which contains a carved Baroque wooden altar dating from 1604. Glass artist Jocelyne Boyer welcomes visitors to the Vetrarte workshop on Place de l’Église.
Recurring celebrations also give these cultural sites a seasonal context. A Mass followed by a procession takes place at the Chapelle Saint-Jean on the third Sunday in September. The Chapelle Notre-Dame de Losari was restored in 2015 and is the setting for an annual Mass in February. Check the dates for the relevant year before planning your trip around them. The Festa di a lingua corsa in Belgodère celebrates the Corsican language through theatre, singing, debates, conferences and workshops; here too, check the latest event dates.
Losari: Protected Area and Trails
Nearly 50 hectares in Losari are permanently protected by the Conservatoire du littoral. The Casa di Losari welcomes visitors during the summer season; check opening arrangements in advance. Two trails lead from the Casa—the Sentier de la tour and the Sentier du Reginu—passing through different natural environments and by notable cultural sites in the area.
The 3 km Découverte de Losari family loop takes in the protected area and the Reginu wetland. This distance helps you gauge the route without specifying a walking time. When planning an outdoor excursion, you should also take local trail conditions into account. The loop and the two named trails offer different ways to focus an outing on Losari’s natural and cultural features.
Beach, Water and Cycling Route
Free parking is available at both ends of Plage de Losari. Check local regulations before travelling. The Centre nautique de Losari offers pedal boats and a Big Paddle with a large slide; these activities may be seasonal. So if you are planning water activities, it is a good idea to check their current availability in advance.
There is also a specifically named route section for cyclists: the Belgodère–Calenzana stage of the GT20 runs along the Strada di l’Artigiani and through the hilltop villages of Balagne. Road conditions can change, so check them before setting out. Alongside village history and Losari’s trails, the beach and cycling are therefore other options to focus on.
If you would like to combine several interests, first treat them as separate planning priorities, then check event dates, seasonal activities and trail conditions.
