Serriera sits on a hill dotted with olive trees, surrounded by forests and overlooking the Gulf of Porto. The village is part of the Corsica Regional Natural Park. Its landscape includes both wooded surroundings and views of the gulf, alongside coastal and cultural themes, each with its own character. The Evisa/Ota/Serriera communal forest is also part of this picture: Serriera shares it with Evisa and Ota, and it is made up of conifers.

Coastal scenery and nature in Bussaghja

The protected coastal area of Bussaghja covers 74.77 hectares across the municipalities of Serriera and Partinello. Its sea cliffs and rocky outcrops provide a habitat for the endemic plant Seseli précoce, which is listed on the Red List of species in need of protection. The cliffs also provide refuge for ospreys, pallid swifts and peregrine falcons. The coast is therefore not just a landscape feature, but also a habitat for named bird species and a rare plant.

The Sabinetu territorial forest is also located in the area around Serriera. The Corsican mouflon is likewise mentioned in the wider regional context. Both offer an additional connection to nature alongside the protected coastal area and the communal forest. The different landscape themes can be considered separately: the coastal cliffs and their wildlife and plant life on the one hand, and the forests in the local and regional surroundings on the other.

Bussaglia Beach: swimming and kayaking

Bussaglia Beach is used for swimming and recreation. It consists mostly of pebbles with some sand—useful information for anyone planning a visit to the beach. The beach is accessible to people with reduced mobility and has a beach mat and a wheelchair. As you should confirm the available facilities again before your trip, it is advisable to check in advance.

Kayaks can be rented at the beach to reach Girolata. Rental availability and operating conditions may vary by season, so check what is available before your outing. Swimming and recreation are one option here, with a possible kayak trip as another: when planning a visit, you can first decide whether you mainly want to spend time by the water or set off by kayak toward Girolata. These are different priorities, and seasonal rental conditions are part of the planning.

Pinito and the history of Serriera

Pinito was abandoned at the end of the 19th century. The ruins of houses and gardens there bear witness to the former life of a community that moved to Serriera. The path to Pinito starts in Serriera, passes through a forest and then reaches the abandoned hamlet. It is a good idea to find out about local conditions before setting out.

Another historical landmark lies in Serriera itself: the Church of Sainte-Marie was built at the beginning of the 20th century. Together with the ruins and gardens of Pinito, it offers a different perspective on the village’s history. Pinito represents an abandoned settlement and the relocation of its community; the church marks a later period of construction. If you are interested in history, you can take these two distinct points of interest into account when planning your trip without combining them into a single route.

Getting there and finding your way

Serriera can be reached via a turnoff from the D81 toward Calvi–Partinello. Allow plenty of time for the drive and take care on the road. Parking is available along the road and on the outskirts of Serriera. As availability and local restrictions may change, check the situation when you arrive.

The different attractions can help you choose where to stay: Serriera’s hills and the history of Pinito may appeal to different interests than a visit to Bussaglia Beach or the coastal nature of Bussaghja. First decide which themes matter for your stay, then compare the address of your specific accommodation with your plans.
