Levie offers different ways to explore village culture and history: one trail follows the water through the village’s rich heritage, while another circular route leads to two archaeological sites in succession. The Musée de l’Alta Rocca and a traditional crafts workshop add to these themes. For the water trail, the approximate time given refers to the route duration; for the archaeological circuit, walking time and the full visit are listed separately.

Water Trails and Village Culture

Numerous trails cross Levie, including the Mare a mare Sud. The “Com'è l'acqua pendi – La mémoire de l'eau” trail follows the water through Levie and the village’s rich heritage. The restored lavoir illustrates the traditional village management and shared use of water. The route description, updated in December 2024, rates “Com'è l'acqua pendi” as very easy and gives its length as 1.7 km and its duration as about 1 hour 30 minutes. Use the distance and approximate duration to plan your time; check current local conditions before setting out.

Museum and Crafts

The Musée de l’Alta Rocca is located in the heart of the village. This makes the museum a distinct cultural destination in the village, alongside the trails and archaeological sites. For another perspective on traditional crafts, visit the Coutellerie de l'Alta Rocca – Atelier du Lotus in Levie, where visitors can discover the work of local craftspeople through exceptional handcrafted pieces. The pieces are made in keeping with the traditions of blacksmithing. Check the workshop’s opening arrangements before visiting.

Cuccuruzzu and Capula: Time and History

The well-maintained circular route leads to the archaeological sites of Cuccuruzzu and Capula in succession and passes through a Mediterranean forest in a protected setting. The estimate of about one hour refers to walking time alone; allow about two hours for the full visit. Check current conditions on the trail and at the sites locally.

The sites reflect different historical contexts. Casteddu de Cuccuruzzu is one of the most important monumental Bronze Age sites (2nd to 1st millennium) in the Alta Rocca; the Torra at the Cuccuruzzu site was probably used to store and process food. Casteddu de Capula was inhabited from the Bronze Age onward and later became a center during the feudal period. Both sites evoke the Bronze Age, but Capula’s later role in the feudal period adds another dimension.

Comparing the Trails

The routes also offer different answers to the question of how much time to allow. The water trail has an approximate route duration, while the archaeological circuit lists walking time and the full visit separately. So when comparing the trails for your day’s itinerary, keep route duration and total visit time distinct and match each figure to the relevant activity.
