Favone is a coastal destination for travellers who want to consider the beach and water sports alongside nature and history. The small bay on the Tyrrhenian Sea is defined by more than just its beach: dunes, the curly alkanet and two historical connections also contribute to its character. You can first decide which side of the area matters most for your trip before looking for a hotel in Favone.

Bay and beach

Favone Bay is small and about 500 m long. The beach stretches along the Tyrrhenian Sea, with relatively coarse sand and a wide upper beach area. The approximate length gives an idea of the bay’s scale; the sand grain size and upper beach area describe other aspects of the beach’s character. When comparing coastal destinations, you can weigh these features separately: the bay’s extent and the beach’s characteristics are different considerations.

Water activities

Favone’s calm, translucent waters are suitable for stand-up paddleboarding; local conditions can vary. At Acqua Vanua, you can rent outrigger canoes, kayaks and stand-up paddleboards. Acqua Vanua also offers outrigger canoe trips. Favone plongée offers introductory dives. This means there are different types of water activities to choose from: paddling with rental equipment, an outrigger canoe trip or a first dive. These are not different versions of the same activity, but different ways to spend time in and on the water. The services offered by Favone plongée and Acqua Vanua are seasonal; their availability may change. Check dates and availability before your visit if a particular offering is important to your plans.

Dunes and coastal nature

Favone’s small dune formations lie within a special conservation area in the Natura 2000 network. The curly alkanet (Anchusa crispa) is also found in the coastal area of Favone. These two details offer different points of reference for nature: a landform that is part of the conservation area, and a specific plant species found in the coastal area. Alongside the beach and water sports, Favone is therefore also a destination with its own connection to nature.

Fishing and history

For a long time, Favone Bay served as a shelter for fishermen. Another, precisely dated episode took place in March 1943, when the submarine «Casabianca» successfully evacuated Corsican Resistance fighters Toussaint Griffi and Laurent Preziosi from the bay. These two connections represent different spans of time: fishing describes the bay’s longstanding role, while the evacuation was a specific event in the Corsican Resistance. The coast thus has a historical dimension alongside its natural features and water activities, tied to a particular place and date.

Favone as a destination for your hotel search

When searching for hotels in Favone, you can first consider which travel interest matters most to you: the coastal setting, water activities, nature or history. These interests offer different reasons to consider Favone as a destination. If an introductory dive or a trip with Acqua Vanua is key to your visit, bear in mind when planning that availability is seasonal.
