Casaglione appeals to travellers looking to combine coastal scenery with archaeological traces and historic buildings. The beach, dolmens and Genoese tower each offer a different perspective. In Tiuccia, a chapel, an annual festival and open cultural activities add to the opportunities for discovery.

Beach scenery at Liamone and Tiuccia

Liamone Beach begins just beyond the point of Capigliolo and stretches on both sides of the mouth of the Liamone River. The area around the beach is protected by the Conservatoire du Littoral; local regulations may change. Check the current rules before visiting.

Tiuccia Beach lies in the Gulf of Liscia. It is a small sandy beach with little coves and rocks that slope down into turquoise water. The two stretches of coast therefore have distinct landscapes: at Liamone, the river mouth shapes the beach, while Tiuccia is characterised by sand, coves and rocks.

A short walking path to Punta Capigliolu starts on the D81 north of the Gulf of Liscia, just past the Casaglione fire station. The path offers views of Liamone Beach and the Gulf of Liscia. The short path to the Tremica Dolmen climbs to the left behind the church. As trail conditions may change, check them before setting out.

Dolmens and archaeological traces

The Tremica Dolmen is evidence of extensive settlement in the area during the Late Neolithic. Monte Lazzu offers a different archaeological focus: it is home to a rock shelter used as a tomb, which contained metal objects from the Early Iron Age. The two sites thus point to different periods and finds.

The trail up to Monte Lazzu takes around 30 to 40 minutes and is considered easy to moderate. The duration and difficulty may vary depending on conditions. The Laboratoire Régional d’Archéologie organises guided visits to Monte Lazzu; check before travelling whether visits are being offered.

Tower and chapel

The Tour de Capigliolu is a ruined Genoese tower in the municipality of Casaglione on Corsica’s west coast. Its condition and origins give the building a different historical character from the archaeological sites.

The Chapelle Saint-Jean-Baptiste in Tiuccia was probably built in 1934 and remodelled in the second half of the 20th century. Its elongated floor plan comprises a nave and a chancel, both with wood panelling. Its construction history and interior layout offer specific architectural points of reference, without reducing the chapel to a single feature.

Festivals, culture and wine

The Feast of Saint John the Baptist is celebrated every year in Tiuccia. It includes a Mass and a procession; dates and programmes may change. If you are planning a visit, check the exact dates in advance.

Scopre offers workshops in the Corsican language, theatre, computing and music in Tiuccia, open to everyone. CIN’ARTE also holds conferences, performances and other events there, open to all. The cultural programme ranges from workshops to public events; programmes may change.

Domaine de Tremica is located within the municipality of Casaglione and offers wine tours and tastings. If you would like to include these in your travel plans, check availability before travelling.
