Alata combines a long history of settlement with a protected landscape setting and various ways to discover the village and its surroundings. The village lies in the protected area of the Punta Mora massif. This gives you a range of options to consider when planning your trip: heritage, a guided village tour, a half-day or full-day excursion, and local products.

Heritage spanning several periods

The Alata area has been extensively settled since the Neolithic period. Among its historic buildings is the Château de la Punta. Built between 1886 and 1891 using stones from the Palais des Tuileries, it was designated a historic monument on 7 February 1977. Alata therefore brings together early settlement and a building from the late 19th century as distinct historical points of interest.

The Chapelle funéraire Pozzo di Borgo is also listed as a historic monument: the decree of 14 May 2012 applies to the chapel in its entirety. San Benedettu has its own parish church within the municipality of Alata. The Church of Saint Pierre des Liens probably dates from the late 16th or early 17th century and features Roman influences and a Pisan style. Those interested in architectural history will find both clearly dated heritage designations and an explicitly approximate date here.

Landscape, village tour and excursion

The Golfe de Lava encompasses the municipalities of Alata, Appietto and Villanova. This is a geographical reference; the Circuit N°1, in turn, links Alata, Villanova and Plage de Lava for a half-day or full-day excursion. For travel from Ajaccio, the RD 61 (Ajaccio-Route d’ALATA) provides access to Alata. The route and road connection therefore serve different planning needs: the Circuit indicates an excursion combination, while the RD 61 is the connection from Ajaccio to Alata.

Another way to discover Alata is the «Visite du village d’Alata» tour. Visitors are accompanied by an archaeologist from the Laboratoire régional d’archéologie (LRA). The tour focuses on archaeology, whereas the Circuit N°1 is specified as lasting either half a day or a full day. The route details may be updated. Check the itinerary before planning; you should also confirm the tour dates and availability in advance.

Regional products and finding accommodation

Alata is home to several breeders and producers of local specialities such as cheese and Brocciu, as well as other producers and artisans. At La Ferme d’Alata, visitors can discover authentic regional products; tastings are also offered there. This can add a culinary dimension to your plans alongside churches, history and excursions. Product ranges and tasting arrangements may change, so it is advisable to check what is currently available before visiting.

If you are looking for a hotel in Alata, you can start by considering which of these themes you would like to shape your stay: historic buildings, a guided village tour, regional products or the Circuit N°1. For practical planning, you can take into account the stated duration of the excursion and the connection from Ajaccio via the RD 61. Also check the location of your chosen accommodation, along with the dates and availability of the activities you wish to include, in advance.
