In Cuisles, a viewpoint brings together art, village history and different insights into winegrowing. The Art’Aire des Varociens overlooks the village; several champagne houses welcome visitors for tastings or tours of their vineyards and facilities. Which experiences you focus on depends on whether you are interested in the landscape, art, history or the production of champagne.
Art Trail, Landscape and Village History
The Art’Aire des Varociens offers a way to take in the landscape and discover Cuisles’s cultural and historical heritage. Five life-size works of art line the 120-metre trail. Their themes range from the village’s history and the Resistance to Mother Nature and biodiversity, as well as the municipality’s relationship with winegrowing. This brings together different perspectives on Cuisles along a short route.
The Art’Aire is about 750 metres from the village square. From there, you can look out over fields, vineyards and woodland. This adds a tangible impression of the surrounding landscape to the art trail’s themes, without requiring another stop on your itinerary.
Another way to combine the landscape with local history is the easy circular walk, “Boucle Jonquery–Cuisles.” In Cuisles, it passes by the Art des Varociens. The route includes a viewpoint over the valley and an opportunity to discover the village’s history. If you are looking for a walk rather than a single viewpoint, this offers a different focus.
Discover the Vineyards and Champagne
Champagne André Heucq is located in Cuisles, in the heart of the Meunier terroir, and farms its estate using biodynamic methods. Champagne Heucq Père & Fils offers tours of its vineyards and facilities. Areas visited include the press, fermentation cellar and storage, as well as the disgorging and labelling areas. This lets you focus your visit on the processes involved in production.
At Champagne Laurence Deplaine, tastings take place in the reception room. If requested and weather conditions are suitable, the tasting can be supplemented with a walk through the vineyards. The grape varieties grown are introduced and can be identified along the way. Visits must be booked at least 48 hours in advance. Please arrange the details of your visit before travelling.
Champagne Emilien Fresne welcomes visitors for vineyard visits and champagne tastings. At Champagne J. Lécurieux, visitors can contact the producer to enquire about a visit to the estate. Contacting them is the first step for this tour, so plan it after arranging the details directly.
The offers have different focuses: Heucq Père & Fils takes visitors to specific areas of the facilities, while the optional walk at Laurence Deplaine focuses on the grape varieties grown. At Emilien Fresne, a vineyard visit and a tasting are two possible types of visit. These differences can help you choose a programme based on the subjects you would like to discover in more detail in Cuisles.
