Explore La Belliole through its hiking trails, cultural heritage and local events. If you want to plan your hike around a specific distance, the Randonnée du Lunain offers a clear reference point: it is 19 kilometres long and starts in La Belliole. The Chemin de La Belliole, by contrast, focuses on landscapes, nature information boards and accessibility for bicycles. These different highlights can help you tailor your trip to your own interests and decide what you want to focus on during your stay.

Hiking and Landscapes

The Chemin de La Belliole is a PR® walking and hiking trail listed in the Yonne Department’s Departmental Plan of Walking and Hiking Routes (PDIPR). It passes through varied landscapes, with a significant proportion of woodland and undergrowth. Three picnic areas have been set up along the route. Nine educational information boards focus on nature conservation; each has a QR code linking to a webpage. Along the way, you can enjoy the scenery and learn about nature conservation.

La Belliole is also home to a pear tree more than 200 years old, classified as an “Arbre Remarquable de France” (Remarkable Tree of France). The Chemin has no slopes or dangerous sections, making it very easy to access by bicycle. Check trail conditions before setting out so your plans reflect the current conditions.

Church and Estates

The Church of Saint-Jacques in La Belliole was built in 1702. Inside, the sea, earth and sky are depicted; the vault, painted to resemble a starry sky, evokes the stars of Compostela. The church thus combines a clearly dated building with an interior whose imagery references Compostela. Visitors interested in sacred architecture can consider both the building’s history and the design of its vault.

The Château de Séreville was built in 1818. Its grounds cover more than 52 hectares, and a river flows through the estate for more than one kilometre. The year it was built, the size of the grounds and the river’s course describe different aspects of the château: its historical origins as well as the scale and landscape of the estate. The Château des Pervenches has been owned by the same family for decades and is a private estate. Its family history is therefore central, while the information about Séreville brings together its building history and landscape features.

Events and Getting There

The Les Gélinottes association organises a flea market, themed evenings and a Christmas market in La Belliole. Dates may vary, so if one of these events is important to your trip, check the specific dates in advance.
