Dicy offers several different reasons to visit: the Église Saint-Sébastien, La Fabuloserie, the annual flea market and the Verger Conservatoire hike. Together, they bring historic architecture, a permanent art exhibition, a recurring event and views of the surrounding area. If you have not yet set your travel dates, you can consider the flea market as a date-dependent event and the church, art and hike as distinct areas of interest.

Église Saint-Sébastien: Romanesque traces and furnishings

The Église Saint-Sébastien was a former priory, documented from 1107 onward. Despite extensive alterations, enough elements remain in the nave to reconstruct its original Romanesque design. For a look at architectural history, it is therefore not only the history of the former priory that is of interest: the reconstructable form of the nave is a focus in its own right.

The furnishings include a 17th-century pulpit, several altarpieces and paintings, as well as wooden statues. The reconstructable Romanesque form and a specifically dated pulpit thus offer distinct points of interest; the other furnishings add to the picture of the church interior. Those interested in architecture can focus on both the building’s form and individual historical details.

La Fabuloserie and Art brut

La Fabuloserie shifts the focus from architecture to art. Its permanent exhibition features works by more than 100 self-taught artists associated with Art brut. The museum has two sections, including the “maison-musée.” Unlike the Église Saint-Sébastien, where the nave and historic furnishings are the focus, the emphasis here is on numerous artists and their connection to Art brut. If you are choosing between architectural history and art, these offer two clearly distinct cultural experiences.

Annual flea market on the municipal meadow

The Arc en Ciel festival committee organizes a flea market in Dicy every year. It takes place on the municipal meadow, which is surrounded by a river like an island. Both the recurring event and its specific setting are defining features of the occasion. If the flea market is a deciding factor for your trip, check the dates for that year’s edition in advance. This lets you plan your trip around the actual event date rather than relying solely on its annual schedule.

Verger Conservatoire hike

The Verger Conservatoire hike adds a marked circular trail to the cultural attractions. It is trail number 109, runs over the heights of Dicy and offers views of the surrounding area. The starting point is the car park by the Dicy washhouse. Before setting off, it is advisable to check the trail markings and local parking conditions. The named starting point, trail number and viewpoints give the hike a specific place in your plans, without equating it with the cultural attractions.

The options differ mainly in their focus when choosing what to include in your itinerary: the church combines reconstructable Romanesque architecture with historic furnishings, La Fabuloserie showcases an extensive permanent exhibition, and the hike crosses the heights. The flea market adds an annual recurring date. You can first decide whether you want your trip to focus more on culture, art, landscape or a particular event date.
