The narrow Cozanne Valley, towering granite cliffs and trails with a range of themes shape Sampigny-Lès-Maranges. The village lies on the Voie verte between Nolay and Santenay and is also a stopover for hikers and cyclists. When planning your trip, you can choose between nature and landscape, winegrowing, local history and cultural events.
Trails with a range of themes
The Voie verte between Santenay and Nolay passes through Sampigny-Lès-Maranges. The village is a stopover along this route and is also on the Sentier Jean-Marc Boivin. The Voie verte gives hikers and cyclists access to varied landscapes and natural habitats. If you want to combine exercise with views of the surrounding area, it offers a clearly defined route; the Sentier Jean-Marc Boivin adds another trail to explore.
For an insight into local history, the “Histoire & Patrimoine” circular walk is a clear thematic highlight: it starts at the entrance to Sampigny-Lès-Maranges from the direction of Cheilly-lès-Maranges. Around twenty information panels trace local history and introduce the built heritage and local life. The theme therefore extends beyond historic buildings to the everyday life of the village. Along the route, visitors can also meet local winegrowers and taste their wines.
The 7-kilometre circular walk “Les Maranges, pas à pas” explores a different set of themes. It was developed in 2026 by the Saône-et-Loire Tourist Office together with the Département and the municipalities of Cheilly-lès-Maranges, Dezize-lès-Maranges and Sampigny-Lès-Maranges. The stop in Sampigny-Lès-Maranges focuses on the grapevine’s growth cycle, geology and biodiversity. On the “Randonnée dans les Maranges” hike, a trail runs through the vineyards past a hill overlooking Sampigny-Lès-Maranges and the Cozanne.
Landscape and nature in the Cozanne Valley
Sampigny-Lès-Maranges lies in the narrow Cozanne Valley, between hills, the river and towering granite cliffs. The village is one of the municipalities in the Monts du Couchois ZNIEFF area. This area is of regional importance for calcareous grasslands, meadows, wooded areas and underground habitats, along with their characteristic flora and fauna. A network of mines and quarries is important for hibernating bats. The natural landscape here ranges from the valley’s landforms to underground habitats.
Cultural venues and local history
La Turbine is housed in an old mill in Sampigny-Lès-Maranges. This cultural venue offers an events programme, hosts artists and holds educational events for schools. In summer, the programme includes baroque music courses. If you want to include a particular event or summer course in your travel plans, check the programme in advance.
The Chapelle de la Vierge adds a historical dimension to the cultural attractions: it dates from 1771 and is listed as a historic monument. A programme of events featuring seasonal music courses and a building with a specific date of origin offer two different ways to explore local history.
