Igé can be explored from several different perspectives: vineyard plots and tasting venues, varied landscapes and historic buildings. When planning, it is worth distinguishing the routes by their character. Alongside the routes, a 12th-century chapel, neoclassical architecture and an artisanal liqueur distillery offer further discoveries.

Wine Routes and Landscapes

The Mâcon-Igé wine route is a six-kilometre marked walk through six Climats in the vineyard plots of the village of Igé. It leads to the Fichet, Les Vignerons d’Igé and des Roches wineries, where wines from the vineyard plots along the route are offered for tasting. Specific tasting arrangements may vary; checking in before your visit can help you plan this part of your trip.

Another wine-related excursion is the Randonnée œnologique d’Igé. It starts near the church, where explanatory panels are located. So, for exploring the wine landscape, you can choose between a marked path through six Climats and a route with panels near its starting point.

Les secrets du Roman offers a different perspective on the landscape. The route starts and ends in Igé on Rue Saint-Germain and passes through forests, teppe terrain, hedgerows and vineyards. At the Sentier du bois de la Roche, the landscape has Mediterranean touches, and protected flora can be found there. The differences between the routes are specific: the wine route has a stated distance and number of Climats, while Les secrets du Roman is distinguished by its varied landscapes and protected flora.

Architectural History and Monuments

The Chapelle de Domange is a 12th-century chapel and has been classified as a Monument historique since 2 September 1938. The construction period and protection date refer to different aspects: the century places the chapel in time, while the exact date marks the start of its classification.

The Église Saint-Germain also adds to Igé’s architectural history. Its neoclassical architecture is notable; by decree dated 12 September 1991, it was listed as a Monument historique. The architectural difference between the church and the chapel can be seen in their clearly stated features: the 12th-century chapel on the one hand, and neoclassical architecture on the other. The two dates refer to the respective monument statuses, not to a shared period of construction.

Wine Cellars and Liqueur

Les Vignerons d’Igé founded one of the first cooperative wine cellars in the Mâconnais in 1927 and operates a cellar with tastings and sales. The Mâcon-Igé route also leads to this winery. This brings together the cooperative’s history and a specific place for tasting and sales; the route adds to this connection with a walk through the vineyard plots.

The Distillerie Méan is also one of Igé’s tasting venues. This artisanal liqueur distillery has a room for tastings and sales. Visitor arrangements may change; checking in advance can help you plan your visit accordingly. Wine and liqueur thus offer two distinct focuses for anyone wishing to include Igé’s local tasting experiences in their travel plans.
