Gigny-Sur-Saône brings together several travel highlights: parts of a former church have been preserved in the town center, and there is also a marked mountain biking route, a cultural and creative space, and a château that is partly protected. This offers a choice ranging from architectural history to cycling and nature to cultural events.
Churches and Château: Local History
The choir and thirteen meters of the nave remain from the former church in the town center; these parts can be visited. The bell tower was rebuilt in the style of the 14th century. Visitors can see preserved parts of the former building as well as a tower whose reconstruction was inspired by an earlier architectural period.
The new church in L’Épervière was built in 1863 and is dedicated to Saint Pancras. The parish of Gigny is also documented under this dedication as early as 1115. The name Pancras thus links an early record of the parish with the church built in 1863.
A major construction phase at the Château de l’Epervière dates to 1788. Since July 23, 1976, it has been partly protected as a French historic monument. The château adds another historic building and its own history of protection to the church sites.
Cycling and Nature
The Liaison Gigny à Sennecey is an easy, marked mountain biking route covering 10.5 kilometers. It starts at the Gigny-Sur-Saône boat landing. With its defined length, difficulty rating and starting point, the route has a clear profile; it offers a different focus from visiting the preserved church remains in the town center.
The route passes through the Bois du Petit Chorme forest. Its fauna and flora are considered characteristic of riverbed habitats. The forest section thus adds a specific connection with nature to the cycling route, tied to this part of the trail.
Other named cycling routes include the Voie Bleue Moselle-Saône and La Boucle de Bourgogne du Sud, both near the La Halte Nautique restaurant. La Halte Nautique also has a charging station for electric bicycles. The accessible Ponton de pêche PMR fishing platform is located in Le Grand Breuil—another specific place for an outdoor activity.
Cultural Program and Travel Interests
Cultural options also go beyond architectural history. Espace Fartfelu is a community and creative space in Gigny-Sur-Saône, with an association bar and a program of performances, exhibitions, activities and other cultural events. Alongside historic buildings, visitors can therefore choose community-based and program-focused cultural activities as a distinct highlight.
For planning your trip, you can consider these interests separately: the former church and the château offer historic highlights, the Liaison Gigny à Sennecey is a clearly identified cycling option, and Espace Fartfelu adds a cultural program. You can tailor your stay according to whether architectural history, cycling with a connection to nature, or cultural events matter most to you.
