Cussy-en-Morvan combines a very difficult mountain biking circuit with walking trails along the hillsides and several historic buildings. The landscape features viewpoints overlooking the village center, the Morvan Mountains and wooded hills. The church, chapel and castle ruins each add their own historical character. You can tailor your stay to focus on a challenging mountain biking circuit, a walk, the landscape or local history.

Mountain biking circuit, walking trail and viewpoints

Circuit No. 11 in Cussy-en-Morvan is a very difficult, 20.7-kilometer mountain biking circuit. The start and finish are at the town hall; the route passes through Cussy-en-Morvan, Chissey-en-Morvan and Sommant. This identifies both the starting and finishing point and the route through the three communes.

Les collines de Cussy is a walking trail along the hillsides around the village center. The landscape is partly wooded and partly bocage. The two routes offer different experiences: the Circuit focuses on mountain biking, distance and difficulty, while Les collines de Cussy focuses on walking and the landscape of the hillsides. The activity and surroundings give you two specific points to consider when choosing what to do.

As you climb toward the cemetery, a viewpoint opens up, looking over the village center of Cussy-en-Morvan with the Morvan Mountains in the background. The Vallon du Grand Vernet is considered a scenic viewpoint in the wooded hills of Cussy-en-Morvan. The views differ: from the cemetery climb, you see the village center and mountain backdrop; at the Vallon, the focus is on the wooded hills.

Church, chapel and castle ruins

The Eglise Saint-Léger was modified in the 16th and 19th centuries. The choir and two side chapels were rebuilt in the 16th century; in 1851, the church was extended with a nave and aisles. Its building history thus combines the rebuilding of older parts with a later extension.

The Château de Marey was built in the 14th century and is now in ruins. The Chapelle de Montcimet stands along the former Roman road from Autun to Entrains and was built in 1620 by Henri de Gaudry. Their historical associations differ: the church was modified over several centuries, the château is now in ruins, and the chapel is situated along a former Roman road.

The Chapelle de Montcimet is not open to visitors and cannot be reached by car. Less than 500 meters away runs a route designated as a GR de pays, suitable for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. The chapel and the nearby route are separate planning considerations: the route is suitable for several activities, but the chapel itself cannot be visited.

FĂŞte de la Tarte

The village celebration, FĂŞte de la Tarte, is scheduled for the third or fourth Sunday in August. Check the exact date if you would like to plan your trip around it.
