In Clessy, historic buildings meet paths through a predominantly wooded landscape. Two very different route lengths are also relevant when planning your visit. You can tailor your stay to culture, nature or the distance you want to cover.

Castles and Village History

The ruins of the Château de Clessy include a well-preserved portal. The ruins are visible from the road in the village centre and can also be seen from the Circuit de la Tour (CL1). This gives the building’s history a concrete presence in the village landscape, as well as a connection to a named route. For a culture-focused visit, the portal is a striking detail of the historic building.

The Château de la Tuilerie in Clessy is designed in the Neo-Louis XIII style, using yellow stone and red brick. The Domaine de la Tuilerie, including its park, was listed as a protected historic monument by decree on 9 March 2022. These are two distinct historic landmarks: the ruins of the Château de Clessy, with their portal, and the architecturally distinctive Domaine with its protected park.

Forest, Sunken Lane and Ponds

The Boucles Nature de Clessy trails pass through a predominantly wooded area. Along the route are ponds fed by several streams; it also passes an unusual sunken lane, known as a “rue creuse”. Forest, ponds and the sunken lane together shape the landscape along this trail. If you are looking for a focus on nature rather than primarily on architectural history, this offers a different theme.

Forests cover 50 percent of Clessy’s total municipal area; this proportion may change as land use changes in the future.

Choose Routes by Distance

The Circuit de la Tour (CL1) is a 6.2 km green walking trail, from which the ruins of the Château de Clessy are visible. Circuit C5 is 49 km long and is called “Voie verte Digoin, Vallée de l'Arroux et Gueugnon”. Clessy is located at kilometre 33 of this route. So, alongside the shorter walk with views of the ruins, there is a much longer route that reaches Clessy at kilometre 33.

When looking for a holiday rental for a trip to Clessy, you can use these differences to guide your planning: should the 6.2 km walk with views of the ruins shape your stay, or is the longer route of Circuit C5 more important? This way, your decision starts with your travel interests and the distance you plan to cover.

Food and Accommodation Planning

Le D’Artagnan in Clessy serves traditional cuisine. Restaurant details may change, so check the information again before you travel. This gives you a culinary point of interest to consider alongside the buildings and routes. Together, the ruins, wooded landscape, trails of different lengths and traditional cuisine offer several concrete themes around which to plan your stay in Clessy.
