Chenôves brings together specific themes from culture and regional produce. Eglise Saint-Blaise and Lavoir les Filletières offer different historical perspectives, while Chèvrerie des Filletières is known for raw-milk goat’s cheese sold directly from the farm. At Étang des Valottes, fishing and picnicking are possible activities. When choosing accommodation, you can consider whether architectural history, regional produce or time by the water will shape your stay most.

Church history and the lavoir

Eglise Saint-Blaise preserves traces of masonry from an earlier church, probably built in the first half of the 11th century. The church was extensively altered at the end of the Gothic period and, above all, in the 19th century. For architecture enthusiasts, its appeal lies in this sequence: traces of a church probably built early on sit alongside major changes from later centuries. The dating of the predecessor building remains an estimate; the phases of alteration offer a different historical reference point.

At Lavoir les Filletières, by contrast, the focus is on a specific renovation, carried out in 2010. Together with the church, it offers a brief comparison of different building histories: masonry traces and later alterations in one case, and the renovation of the washhouse in the other. Eglise Saint-Blaise and Lavoir les Filletières are freely accessible year-round; check the access information again before your visit.

Goat’s cheese and a farm visit

Chèvrerie des Filletières in Chenôves makes raw-milk goat’s cheese. Its products include the Boutons de culotte speciality, AOP Charolais cheese and other traditional lactic cheeses. A visit therefore centres on a specific product, from raw-milk preparation to the named varieties of cheese. The farm’s cheeses are sold directly from the farm.

The farm shop also sells honey, wine and terrines, in addition to the farm’s own varieties; availability of these products may change. The farm can be visited during the shop’s opening hours. Check the current opening hours before planning your visit. This lets you combine a visit to the farm with shopping, without assuming you can visit outside shop hours.

Fishing and picnicking at Étang des Valottes

Fishing at Étang des Valottes is possible daily from April to February. Possible catches include carp, roach, tench and trout. The period and the species offer two different points of reference for planning: when a fishing trip is possible and which fish may be caught. Fishing conditions can change, so check the current information before your visit.

Étang des Valottes is also suitable for picnicking. This makes it a possible use of the site in addition to fishing. When planning your time there, you can take the seasonal fishing opportunity as your guide or treat a picnic as a separate reason to visit.
