For Anzy-le-Duc, the church and the tourist walking route provide two clear focal points: the Romanesque portal dates from the 12th century, and the village route is about 3 km long, starting at the town hall. The history of the former priory and the landscape of the Arconce valley add to these attractions. The Forêt domaniale des Charmays is another option for short walks. When choosing your stay, you can therefore decide whether architecture and local history or trails and scenery should take priority.

Romanesque Heritage and Former Monastery

The former priory was founded in the Carolingian period by Hugues de Poitiers and is an example of Cluniac architecture. The church of the former priory is now the parish church. Access arrangements may vary; check the applicable conditions before visiting.

The Romanesque portal is located in the southern enclosure wall and dates from the 12th century. It has been protected as a historic monument since May 4, 1922. The dates refer to different aspects: the Carolingian period marks the foundation of the priory, the 12th century dates the portal, and 1922 marks the beginning of its protected status.

The former priory is privately owned. Before visiting, check whether access is possible and under what conditions.

The Arconce Valley and Woodland Landscape

The church and former priory overlook the Arconce valley. The river, accompanied by riverside trees, meanders through a landscape of pastureland and bocage hedgerows, and wet meadows. The entire listed area is included in the ZNIEFF Type II “Vallée de l’Arconce.”

The Forêt domaniale des Charmays is suitable for short walks and lies in a Natura 2000 area with meadows, bocage, marshland, and dry heathland in the Belaine valley. The Chapel of Notre Dame de la Touche, built in the 1870s, stands in front of the entrance to the state-owned Forêt domaniale des Charmays. The village view of the church and priory is associated with the Arconce; the woodland landscape is associated with the Belaine valley.

Village Walking Route and Puzzle Game

The tourist walking route in Anzy-le-Duc starts at the town hall and is about 3 km long. Its 12 stops each have a QR code. If you prefer a clearly defined village route, the starting point and approximate length provide specific guidance; the Forêt domaniale des Charmays, by contrast, is an option for short walks. Check the route conditions before your visit.

The family game “Vol à Anzy-le-Duc” uses puzzles for children aged 9 to 12. The 2026 tourism information lists it as available year-round and names the bakery, town hall, and inn in Anzy-le-Duc, as well as the Marcigny-Semur tourist office, as places where booklets can be obtained. Before your trip, check whether the offer and distribution points are still available.
