Recey-sur-Ource offers several distinct ways to experience a stay: a tufa mire in the communal forest, walking trails, historic architectural styles and regional produce. You can weigh nature, longer walks, architectural history and local products as different interests for your trip.

Nature at the Marais des Brosses

The Marais des Brosses is located in the communal forest of Recey-sur-Ource and in the core area of the Parc national de forĂŞts. The tufa mire offers a glimpse of the local flora. A 250-metre nature trail loops through the mire; half of it runs along a low boardwalk on stilts. Its short length makes for a manageable outing, while the boardwalk shapes part of the route.

The path through the mire was renovated to make public access safer and protect the mire from damage. The work was documented in July 2023. Check local conditions before your visit.

Walking trails from Recey-sur-Ource

Both the Circuit de Montot and the Circuit de Lugny start in Recey-sur-Ource. Montot is nine kilometres long and Lugny eleven; both are rated easy. Montot is a forest trail in the Parc national de forĂŞts. The Circuit de Lugny is associated with the former Chartreuse de Lugny and has a monastic atmosphere. When comparing them, consider both the two-kilometre difference and their distinct themes.

Other named walking destinations include the Promenade de la Carrière, which leads to the Trou de Bazon spring, also known as Trou de Bazou, and the tufa mire of Vaulemain, which is suitable for a short walk.

Architectural history and styles

The Maison forte de Beaufremont, also known as the Tour de Beaufremont, is a fortified house. Its roof is predominantly covered with laves and has a remarkable roof structure. Dendrochronological analysis dates the probable felling year of the timber to 1305; the roof structure is dated to the beginning of the 14th century. The year 1305 therefore refers to the probable felling year of the timber, while the second date concerns the roof structure.

Another architectural detail is the lavoir, with its limestone roof. Those interested in architectural styles can thus find, alongside the fortified house, another example of the roofing materials described for the area.

Market and produce

The Marché de Recey-sur-Ource takes place year-round at Place de Silenrieux. Offerings include dairy products, including sheep’s cheese, fresh and dried fruit and vegetables, and savoury foods. The selection may vary by market day, and market arrangements may change. Check local information before your trip.

La Safranerie Templière produces saffron, purple garlic and grey shallots in Recey-sur-Ource’s former hemp fields on the edge of Grouème. The products are available directly at the processing site. Availability may vary by season and direct-sales arrangements may change, so check in advance if you plan to buy anything. In October, the business offers visits by individual or group arrangement during the flowering and harvest. Arrange your visit in advance.
