The Route des Grands Crus passes through Fixin. The town also offers cultural history, buildings, outdoor activities, and wine as distinct travel interests. This variety is helpful when choosing your personal focus: culture enthusiasts can look to monument status, collections, and architectural history; those who prefer to be active or include wine in their plans can put other interests at the center.
Culture and History
A decree dated August 7, 2024, designated Parc Noisot as a historic monument. The protected park includes sculptures and the Staircase of the Hundred Steps. This means the protection covers not only the sculptures but also a specifically named structure. The date of the decree marks when this protection took effect.
Since September 17, 2003, the Musée Noisot has held the designation “Musée de France.” Its collections consist of memorabilia relating to Napoleon I and are housed in a building that belonged to Claude Noisot. The museum thus brings together two historical aspects: the collection’s focus on Napoleon I and the building’s former ownership. The “Musée de France” designation adds a distinct institutional status to these themes.
Buildings and Historical Context
The Chapel of Saint Anthony (Saint-Antoine) in Fixey is the oldest Romanesque building in the CĂ´te Dijonnaise. Its dedication identifies its religious association, while its status as the oldest Romanesque building also highlights its architectural history.
The Church of Saint-Martin in Fixin dates from the late 12th century. The Manoir de la Perrière is a manor house dating from the 12th century. The manor also has a history of ownership: it belonged to the monks of Cîteaux until 1622. Its construction date and former ownership are two distinct historical points of reference.
Fixin’s central washhouse was built in 1827 on the ruins of an earlier washhouse; its water is highly iron-rich. In addition to its history, the water’s distinctive properties are a characteristic detail of this building. The dates span buildings from the 12th century, the end of the manor’s ownership history in 1622, and the washhouse from 1827.
Outdoor Activities and Wine
The Combe de Fixin is very popular with hikers and climbers and has more than 200 climbing routes on site. The number makes the climbing opportunities particularly concrete; hiking is also a popular activity. This allows visitors to explore two different outdoor interests without implying that the route count applies to hiking.
The Clos Saint Louis winery offers visitors a comprehensive tour from the vineyard to the cellar, followed by a tasting of its own wines. The experience therefore combines a tour with a subsequent tasting. For wine enthusiasts, it offers a specific experience alongside the buildings and outdoor activities.
